Hello,
I am thinking of trading in my 2.0GHz 2009 Mac Mini for the 2.26GHz because I feel like I need more power. So, am I able to ask Apple to replace my current Mac Mini with a 2.26GHz? Will it only cost $150 or will there be like a tax or restocking fee?

Gee, I don't know... how long have you had it?

Are you within your 14 days? You can return it and pay a restocking fee then rebuy the faster model.

What's causing you grief with the one you have?

I believe Apple does have a 15% restocking fee on the Mac Mini.

I've had the Mac Mini for a month. So does that mean I have to pay a restocking fee? I just feel its slow when I'm browsing the internet.

That's past the 14 day return policy

And your slow browsing could be due to your ISP and not the Mac
There are number of things to look at regarding internet speed

I doubt the bump on the Mini would do you much good in that regard

Well, Apple gives you 14 days to return your product. However. Some people say that they have overriden the restocking fee by calling support and talking to a manager.

I have the 2.0 with the stock 1 gb ram driving a 47" tv where I watch streaming content over the internet, stream movies at 1080p over my wifi network, and use for general computing. I've never felt a lag.

My guess is MacDawg is correct and it's your ISP and no amount of CPU speed will change that.

Not really going to be any noticeable difference.

You can check www.barefeats.com to see if I'm wrong or not.

Really the only way to get a boost for other stuff is to trade up to a MacBook or iMac with a real GPU.

For anything else that doesn't need a GPU, nada.

If you are using FireFox 3.x, just look up how to disable IPv6 and look at an OpenDNS server.

so without the restocking fee, would it only cost $150?

I think you are out of luck on a return
You are past the 14 day grace period and there is nothing wrong with the machine

Now, you might be able to talk a store manager into doing it for you, but that would be a local deal and not policy

Oh, ok, so should I just keep my 2.0GHz Mac Mini and upgrade the RAM and Hard Drive?

Ok my results are
Download: 1.21Mb/s
Upload: 0.32Mb/s
Ping: 33ms
I got 2.9 stars out of 5.

Are these bad results?

Your speed should allow you to play WOW without many problems at all.

Likely try the IPv6 hack for your copy of Firefox.

That turns a painfully slow and clunky browser into something that runs rather nice.

^ Interesting RE the IPv6. I've never heard of that ... apparently I live under a rock!

I have one last question, between the 2.0 and 2.26 Mac Mini, is there a huge difference in speed and or is it unnoticeable?

Not much as far as I know. It usually comes down to what kind of applications and software your planning on running on your machine. I've always thought that RAM makes a bigger difference then 0.26ghz ever will.

I would not return your mac. I believe this is a case of just you not understanding what is causing your bottleneck.
