It's good but you really do have a good machine. I would upgrade your ram tbh. What do you run program wise? Just WOW?

I don't play WOW.
I basically browse the internet, watch youtube, watch movies, homework, and do a little movie/photo editing.

The machine you have should be more than enough for what you are doing

I hope for your sake you're using firefox.

the only thing better than firefox I can think of (OS X exclusive) is Camino.

Camino is so lightweight and full featured it made web browsing bearable on my imac g3 with os x

help from a pc,

I have a feeling the speed has nothing to do with the computer. my 2 imacs surf the web at nearly the same speed and they are 3 years apart

My old G5 does well.

I agree with all the others; paying an extra $300 for a negligible difference in overall performance is pointless, especially since it will do nothing for your original problem.

If you bought the stock 2.0 mini then the 1GB of ram may be the issue. I can't stand new macs with only 1gb or even 2gb. I just bought my new iMac and I already ordered the 4GB Corsair kit for it.

I bought the stock Mac Mini and plan to upgrade to 4GB of RAM and a 320GB Scorpio Black. I feel the same way that I can't stand that some Macs come with 1GB or 2GB lol.

Same Problem

I have the same 2009 $600 Mac Mini. I thought it was extremely slow and I know it was not my internet connection.

The stock drive was a 120GB Fujitsu which was slow, especially once it starts filling up. Safari 4 was quite bad. Considering it only had 1GB of Ram and 128 MB was being used by the graphics card, that means that you are running the OS with less than 1 GB of Ram.

I upgraded it to 4GB Ram and a 500GB 5400RPM WD hard drive.

I can honestly say that now it feels like a totally different computer.

If you don't feel comfortable upgrading it yourself, OWC Macsales will do it for you for $99 with express mail in both directions.

I think that Apple is doing a disservice to itself by only including 1GB of Ram. I can buy a 1GB stick of official "Apple Ram" from Macsales for $10, which means it probably only costs Apple $2-3. I understand that they need to differentiate their products but shipping a $600 computer with only 1GB of Ram is ridiculous and makes for a bad user experience, especially for switchers and potential switchers. No one wants to buy a computer for $600 that needs to be upgraded just to have a decent user experience. Only Apple can get away with this.

Rule of thumb, never go with less than 2GB of ram, unless you plan on updating it yourself the day you get it.

Check and see how much RAM you are using, if you are getting a lot of page outs and RAM is maxed out all the time, upgrade it.

If it not too hard...

If you are using 1GB in your new 2.0GHz Mac Mini, it's time to get on crucial.com and order yourself 4GB of ram for the Mini, then break out the putty knife and do the upgrade.
