As long as your friend has a computer capable of running iTunes, go ahead.

The friend will have to redeem it in iTunes and download it in iTunes. Then they can copy the downloaded file to their Android (or upload it in to the Google Play Music website,) and it will play just fine on an Android device.

They do have to have iTunes installed somewhere, and they will likely have to make an iTunes account if they don't have one already, though.

Note: I have music purchased on iTunes, Microsoft Xbox Music, Google Play Music, and Amazon. I have all of them available in every service, using the various "automatic uploaders" they all have available. So my entire music library, regardless of where I purchased each individual song, is available on my Windows tablet, my Android tablet, and my iPhone. (Xbox Music is by far the most difficult to deal with.)

Amazon ... You get the music app for any device. Even if you buy music on google, you can download them as MP3 only without DRM.

I am sure there are tons of ways to gift a song.

If 'a song' is a specific one, here is a thought. Go legacy and buy a CD.

Why unfortunately?
Samsung users don't deserve such a gift.

You are right. Besides parts like this should stay away from Apple forums and should be in the alternative section.

Oh wait .... :D

Can I gift an iTunes song to a person who owns a Samsung Android?

way better and cheaper sources than iTunes or Amazon. I like MP3Million better but have used both for years. Just set them up with an account and add credits.

There is no chance that those sites are truly legit. They are likely circumventing law and I have no doubt when they are selling an album for €1.09 that the artist is not getting any money period.

To be perfectly blunt it may be convenient (or cheap) to buy there, but you may as well be torrenting as ultimately it's still a case of taking someone's work & not paying for it.

Buying through a glorified trafficker doesn't equate to paying the artist.

None and I mean NONE of the digital service distributors that you use to distribute music to the online music services like Tunecore etc.. Include either of those sites you mentioned. If no legal distributor & royalty collecting bodies are supplying music or dealing with collecting revenue from that site, they are not doing so for a reason.

My understanding is they are paying out according to laws in their country and yes it's far less but legal. There are plenty of options available for whatever someone wants to choose.

How is this anybody's fault?

You can't use a Target gift card at Bestbuy.
You can't gift an Xbox game to a Playstation user.

It should be up to the user to verify the receiver is using the same service, before you try to gift them.

iTunes purchased songs are DRM free. Simply copy your .m4a file and send it to your friend.
