Obviously you generally don't want to buy a 2010 title just to turn all the effects down to low; but having said that, for people who are wondering, SC2 is not actually a demanding title, as these things go. Which is to say, if you are prepared to turn everything down, you can actually get "good enough" gameplay, on a pretty minimal machine. You wouldn't want to be training for tournament play ;), but if a weaker machine is all you have right now and you are wondering whether to buy SC2 or not, I'd say buy.

My 2c.

Did everyone upgrade thier macbooks this year? It used to be any "will it run" thread would mention the 9400m within 3 posts ;)

Those of us with the late 2008 macbooks, anyone played SC2 on the 9400m? I am hoping medium to low is possible.

I've got a 13 inch Macbook with the 9400m (Oct. 2008), 2.4 Ghz (I think? It's the backlit one) and 2 GB RAM. I've played a 1v1 and a few 2v2 games on low and they've been running perfectly smooth. If I take it up to medium, however, it will slow down when there are numerous units on the screen or if I'm moving the pane. So I play on low. With regards to graphics, frankly, I think SC1's graphics were better than SC2's graphics on low. More cartoony perhaps and not 3D, but more crisp. But SC2's gameplay is addictive and that's what I bought it for.

I wonder, if I bump my Macbook up to 4 GB, will that improve performance? If there was a way I could play it on medium without hiccups I would.

I doubt adding more RAM would help that much. You could almost certainly play in Medium in Bootcamp, though.

This is my first time running a computer game in quite sometime. I'm running it on the stock 15" MBP i5 2.4ghz.

You can not run it on high or ultra settings. You can run with no issues with the resolution maxed out but you have to tone everything else down.

The game runs smoothly from there on out. I've only touched the single player and about 5 or 6 missions. I love the game and reminds me of playing the original back when I was 17. That was probably the last "computer" game I've played.

Even with the graphics toned down I believe that it looks pretty awesome! No slowdowns yet.

I'll be throwing a momentus XT and 8GB of ram in on Thursday and we will see if that will help matters.

How much better does it run in Windows than OS X?

Does someone have benchmarks?

Hey guys! Good news! I bought and installed 4 GB of RAM into my late 2008 Macbook (9400m) and now I'm playing smoothly on medium settings. It still recommends "low" in the options menu but it's running well on medium (whereas before medium was unplayable). I played a bunch of ranked games (Gold League 1v1 and 2v2) and a few more campaign missions and it hasn't choked. :D

So for those with 2GB of RAM (minimum SC2 Mac settings), I definitely recommend trying 4GB of RAM (recommended SC2 Mac settings). The SC2 performance difference was like night and day for me.

Anyone try using Safari or something while Starcraft 2 is running? I had to look of a cookie recipe for my girlfriend while I was playing. I used command M to shrink down SC, then went to Safari and it was brutal - delayed typing and slow browsing.

When I closed SC later it was fine but still got me a bitnervous. I have a 2010 13'' MBP 4gb RAM 3.4ghz processor. Anyone else have this problem?
