Pretty much.
For some reason some cannot admit the fact that they were wrong or made a mistake.
Its always everyone else's fault but theirs.
Those are usually the same people who discard any valid information that does not support what they want to hear and then go out and act on it, only to find that they have now just seriously screwed themselves over. Their pride means that it was someone else's fault and not theirs.

In this case, the poster WANTS to unlock his Sprint iPhone domestically so any information that is contrary to that desire is in error and irrelevant to him. Only information that supports his desire is valid and actionable.

Which means that to him, we're all know-nothing idiots because we disagree with him.

Sprint Does not Unloack iPhones Currently!!!

I have a Sprint iPhone 4S and I can vouch they will not unlock your phone. I tried for over 17 hours to get this done. Sprint was very polite but they were clueless when they gave me the unlock code.

Sprint said to give it to the carrier I wanted to go to. The carrier had no clue what to do with the unlock code which was basically an unlock for international and not the domestic that I requested. I then went back to Sprint and was told I needed to go to Apple to have it unlocked. I called Apple and was told the unlock has to come from Sprint and no one else. I called Sprint back and was told Apple had to do it.

I was trying to go to H2OWirelessnow.com as there unlimited plan was over $15.00 dollars a month cheaper than what I currently pay with Sprint. I was trying to keep the cost down and didn't want to buy a new phone.

Sprint has lost me as a customer. Since I don't have the money to buy another iPhone and I refuse to do another 2 year contract. My next iPhone I will buy out right and it will be unlocked.

Sprint corporate is just greedy. I don't blame Sprint Customer Service or there Tech Department I blame the greedy corporate people at Sprint.

The only option I have with my Sprint locked phone is going with ting.com that sells buckets of minutes. I was going to switch to them as I refused to give sprint my $75+ dollars a month any more. I'm made that Sprint is holding my iPhone 4S hostage and nothing can be done about it.

I'm sorry you wasted 17 hours of your life you can never get back, but this policy has been in effect for years.

The reason it can't happen is because Sprint buys the iPhones direct from Apple. Wherever it is they are sold, Sprint is the first buyer. Sprint records the IMEI of every phone and prohibits Apple from ever placing those IMEIs in it's unlock database.

Next, Sprint takes the IMEI/ESN and pairs it with the SIM card in your device. That SIM card is checked to make sure you are legit on Sprint's network. If your device does not find the paired SIM or finds a SIM it's not paired with you get no service.

It's an encrypted lock and only Sprint has the key to unlock it.

I'm not surprised you dealt with clueless Sprint employees. SIM cards have only been a recent development with Sprint. The Sprint iPhone 4 doesn't even HAVE a SIM card.

Understand that in my next statement I am not attacking you, I am just commenting. You may be mad at Sprint for not unlocking your device. But from Sprint's perspective - so what?! Sprint doesn't care about you. They care about your money. And they have you (and all of us) trapped. Short of giving Sprint the finger, porting out and not paying the final bill - Sprint get's it's money, either with you paying the ETF or paying your monthly bill.

Out of curiousity, how does Sprint have their device locked to not be compatible with other US SIMs, yet it recognizes international SIMs, while Verizon is able to have theirs completely unlocked? I never understood this.

Verizon is forced to unlock their iPhone 5s completely by order of the FCC. The FCC demanded this before it would allow Verizon to use the LTE frequency that it uses.

I'm not sure how Sprint does this for an international unlock. Based on everything I've read it's really unclear to me how that works. Perhaps it has to do with the circuitry in the phone.

I'm sure I'd know more if I ever bothered trying to get an unlock. But being with Sprint for almost 15 years it's just never been an issue.
