You americans really have it lucky. A BTO "better" configured 15" MBP under EDU/GOV pricing is only A$100 more than the BTO basic configured 15" MBP!

Wow, maybe I should start exploring ways on how to buy my macs from the US instead of locally.

I have been using it for years. The military IS a Federal Government agency, thus it qualifies. According to Apple's policy, purchases at the discount may be made for family members and friends. However it does state that the member is to make the purchase.

As a side note.. I have used this for over 10 years with the On-LINE store. And so have all my military co-workers. And in all that time, I have never heard of Apple ever checking ID cards. Maybe if you go to an Apple store in person, but never on-line. I'm not telling you to lie, it's just that your INTENT would be honerable, since you are in fact entitled to the discount through your dad. If you really need to buy in person, I would talk to the store and see what they will do. I bet they want the sale, and will take your military ID card without a question. My wife has used her Depemdent Spouse card that way at an Apple store in Washington DC, when I was away.

To find the Gov store on-line, go to the Apple Store and scroll down to the selection for OTHER APPLE STORES WORLDWIDE. From here you will find US Government.

I have included an excerpt of the policy.

Enjoy!

Federal Employee Purchase Program (EPP)
Terms and Conditions

PROGRAM AGREEMENT
The Federal Government Employee Purchase Program (EPP) is a benefit provided by Apple Computer, Inc. ("Apple"), to employees and contractors. The program is intended for personal use or for the use of family members and friends.

By submitting your order, you certify that you have read and understand the terms and conditions of the Federal EPP policy and confirm that you are an employee of an agency to which Apple has offered this benefit.

PROGRAM OFFERING
Personal Discount: You may purchase or "sponsor" up to six system bundles each calendar year (January 1-December 31). "Sponsoring" means placing an order for a family member or friend. No more than two systems or monitors may be shipped each calendar year to the same individual or entity (i.e., company, institution, club or group), whether that purchase is sponsored solely by you or, also, by other eligible employees. You may not sponsor the purchase of products by any educational institution. A system bundle includes, and is limited to, one CPU, one display (built-in displays count as one display), one AirPort card and one Airport Base station. You do not need to purchase all components of a system bundle at the same time to qualify for the discount.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. That's my thinking, that they want the sale. Are they really gonna have me walkaway from a $1300+ purchase because I want an $80 discount that I'm entitled to? The only problem they could give me is that my dad isn't here to honor it, even though I have my ID. I'll find out later this afternoon, I guess. If they don't take it, I'll just buy it off Amazon with no tax AND $100 off.

Wait!

Yeah, but I assume Matt doesn't want to pay taxes which would be quite high depending on where you live. Not everybody has no sales taxes like me in NH!:D

Well, it worked with no problem!

I went into the Apple Store, and walked to the counter and asked for a 2Ghz white Macbook. He asked if I would be using a student discount, and I said I would instead be using a military discount. He took off the money without even asking for ID. I'm sure I could of saved an extra $20 just by agreeing to using the student discount. The employee seemed to not care at all.

Anyhoo, loving my first Mac!

So there's military discount, staff discount, developers discount and education discount. Where the ^%*& is the average consumer discount;)

My dad is a veteran of the US Marines, but is currently away. I was wondering if I could present my military I.D. to the Apple store in order to receive the government discount. (?)

According to this, http://www.apple.com/r/store/government/fedepppolicies.html , a member of the government can "sponsor" family purchases. If he is away, and I show a military I.D, can I get the discount?

Thanks.

When I was in the Army up to a few months ago, I was never able to purchase from Apple a discounted system. When Apple takes about government discount, does not include Armed services. This is normal Government is mainly regisited to federal civilians. Sorry, any how a Education discount is the same.

Not true. Maybe the people you spoke with didn't know how it worked, but military is clearly government. I had a friend in the Air Force use it and a Vietnam vet who had his VA card. They gave them the discount no questions asked. As apparently they did the OP, who is a family member of an enlisted.

Edu is simply someone who works for an accredited school or a college student.
