To me, a netbook requires three things:

1. Slower than ordinary CPU
2. Small, compact size
3. Small, compact keyboard.

(1) is arguable, (2) is satisfied, (3) is not.

Full-sized keyboard = not a netbook to me.

Just what I think, too regarding this latest model.

Plus a netbook at $999 would not sell. Apple has a very thin laptop w/o optical drive, but with core 2 duo and full sized keyboard.

The weight may say netbook but the experience says laptop or notebook.

Apple did us all proud with the 11.6" inch MBA.

The benchmark for what a netbook can do, and how powerful it is, keeps rising, just as the benchmarks do for all classes of computers.

I agree with the guy who said it's an ultraportable satellite.

Oh so now we are comparing it to a typewriter since the situation doesn't work against a typical computer keyboard? I see. Unfortunately I use F1 thru F11 on a daily basis for my work when navigating the software that runs our business. Not to mention that top row of keys is rather handy for a number of OSX features which I use daily outside of work.

But please continue to make excuses for the shortcomings of what was suppose to be a full size keyboard. :)

...wasn't making excuses for anything. Just giving my own POV.

Word processing on a netbook sucks because of the cramped keyboard. Word processing on a MBA doesn't. To me, that's important.

Other things will be important for other people. And clearly, other people will define "netbook" in different ways. Or we could just all kill each other.
