@Acronyc I absolutely agree with some of your points. I think you'll see I bought the iPad 2017 for almost the same reasons as you. It's not bad at all for the purpose it was built for - a budget iPad that gets the job done.

Tru-Tone I think is an advantage. It's either like it or hate it feature for most it seems. But it definitely helps with eyestrain as it corrects the white point on the display using ambient sensor's to detect illumination in the room. Good move Apple added it to the 12.9 Pro this year.

Best Buy is having a Black Friday in July sale, evidently beginning tomorrow. I received an early access email, and the price on the 9.7 Pro 128GB is $499.99. I was going to wait till our tax-free weekend in a couple of weeks, but I may go ahead and order. I can't help but wonder if stores will soon deplete their supplies of last year's Pro models.
