USA
I have an iPhone X and just have 1 sim with 1 phone number - mine.

I was wondering why 2 would be useful? Like what circumstance?

I travel internationally. I will buy a local SIM card when I arrive at the airport. I will swap out my US SIM card for the new SIM card. It will be nice that I will not need to swap out the SIM card for the new one. I can then make local calls in the country I am located. Then also make calls back to US with my US number when connected to WiFi.

I see! So mainly if you have 2 phones and also for international.

I guess since I don't need 2 phones and don't go overseas then I don't need it

This was a feature that pushed me over, planning to travel abroad in December ans my destinatiom has esim!

I used my phone in Asia this year, I probably overspent a little. Didn’t think about getting anotger sim. it seemed like too much work (and I have Sprint so it is CDMA.). I am assuming this will work ok with the dual sim and they included GSM and CDMA in all phones.

SIM 1: Cheap tablet data plan.

SIM 2: Cheap voice-only plan.

Result: Savings.

Thing is, in China, India and some other developing countries, it is usual that some carrier has cheaper deals for calling other phones on the same carrier, some other carrier has cheaper data, and so on and so forth. So people will buy two SIMs on prepaid lines to get the most value out of these two carriers they chose.

Not sure how it would be an issue for someone in these countries with enough cash to get an iPhone X but hey, who am I to judge.

This eSIM implementation in other countries is a scam and I absolutely refuse to have my phone number requiring anything other than myself exchanging a SIM card to transfer to a new phone.

It's not a "developing country" thing. Most markets with true competition between carriers have such deals.

The U.S. wireless market is an oligopoly, so Americans find it strange to have dual-SIM.

In China, everyone uses a WeChat account to pay for gas, utilities, restaurants, and groceries. So a fixed phone number is not as relevant.

The difference is how much these savings would need to be to offset the hassle of switching back and forth between two phone numbers.

Sim 1: Wife and family.

Sim 2: Not Wife and family.

Pretty much the only use case if you’re doing this on an Xs MAX.

The "hassle" is as simple as tapping "Yes" when WeChat or iMessage/FaceTime detects a new phone number on the new SIM card.

Wait, what does it being a XS MAX have to do with it???

If you’re spending $1700 on a phone you’re not quite looking for the best value in wireless, are you?

Well Android might be cheaper but like what does having 2 numbers to cheat on your spouse, which isn’t a good idea I’d imagine, have to do with the XS MAX?

Are you saying cheating on your spouse is a bad idea and so is getting the MAX? Just confused lol.

Secret second phone number for when you are cheating on a spouse

I actually first used Google Voice when I was with my exboyfriend and needed to keep other side stuff on the down low. Having that secondary number, and being able to install and delete the app as needed, made it very convenient. It was douchy of me, I know, and I'm no longer in a relationship because apparently I can't handle monogamy.

But now I just use it for work. I give clients my GV# so I'm able to keep those calls and texts completely apart from my personal stuff. It's basically a secondary line without the added costs.

I feel like I just read a reddit confession

I have a work phone and a personal phone. I don't like taking two with me everywhere I go. I cannot wait to transfer to an eSIM so I can have just the one phone.

Also, when going abroad, I can get a data SIM from that country and pop it in the phone to use while away.

I currently have my main phone number on ATT Prepaid. A backup phone on a Verizon MVNO for when I'm on the road to help improve coverage in case of problem. It would be more convenient to have it on 1 phone.

In my case, both the 2 main phones are iPhones, so I get iMessage to both. And with forwarding, if both have coverage, the messages show up on either phone.

I just returned from an overseas trip, and dual SIMs would have been nice. I could have kept my normal SIM in the phone and not worry that the loose SIM would get lost somehow.
