Is JB worth having to tetherboot with blackra1n, yes for me
I'm curious for anyone who is currently using a tethered jailbreak, is it worth it? My iPhone died and was replaced by Apple with the new iBoot (Damn Apple!!!). I want to be able to tether with the phone, and I really miss being able to multitask, but I'm surviving. Wondering if the tethered option is actually doable for anyone.
Since I haven't seen anyone give their opinion, I thought I might. I have a 32gb 3GS with the iboot and am stuck having to boot my iPhone tethered because it boots dfu after the blackrain JB. At first I was reluctant, but decided to give it a try, figuring I had 2 enemy's. #1, a battery going dead, I simply spent 60 bucks and got a case with an extended battery add-on, although I don't always run it, I have it in the glove box incase I need it, in 4 weeks I haven't even gotten near a dead battery, and it really doesn't take too much effort, problem #1 solved. Now the other problem, is the need for the phone to reboot, and well, even with a "plethora" of apps and hacks, I still haven't had to reboot my phone for 3 weeks while out of the home/office. The only time I have had to reboot it, was when updating through Cydia, and I just haven't had to do a install requiring a reboot while out of the home/office, when I needed to, I performed it the two times I was at the office with the machine. Is there a possibility some new update might come out, yes, is it something mandatory to update while driving down the road, no. Anyways, my kids watch our sling-box while I we are out and about, requiring JB for network hack for slingbox to work on 3G instead of the crippled Wi-Fi that apple made sling-box create. Plus, just all the unix add-ons that I use being a *nix admin for a living, well the iphone replaces my laptop and I can still do my job from a phone, can't live with it not JB. Because of that, I might not be the best person to ask if its worth it, but for me, going on 6 weeks and not once even close to getting stuck out of the office and needing to reboot the iphone, I bet if you ask some people here, we'll find people telling us that they haven't rebooted in months, really no reason too. The iphone might not be Linux, but I have linux servers going on 2 years without a reboot, uptime is insane. To me, its not a hassle, not even a after thought.
Will I rush to take advantage of a new iboot hack, yes, but is it not being currently available stopping me from JB, no, you should give it a try, it only takes 5 minutes (at most) to return it to stock if you ever get stuck out of the home or office and stuck in DFU.
just my 10cents.
