Canon Australia's Facebook announcement isn't going down too well...

doesn't Australia impose a pretty hefty import duty on goods over a certain threshold of value? If I recall correctly it was some arcane calculation that worked off the value of the item, customs duty plus transportation and insurance costs, and then some percentage off that which when all added together could run about 15%.

Whoa .... Canon must think all you guys in OZ are loaded . Taking into account the currency conversion thats almost 850 US more than the price on the B&H website .

The U.K. Is even more! Google tells me the U.K. Price of 3599 is 6233 Aus!!!

Not to me, but actually I am!

What? Offensive or dyslexic? :)

Rotten isn't it? Mainly because we add 20% on for value added tax. This is similar to sales tax in the US but typically way higher than fed plus state sales tax.
[doublepost=1472154625][/doublepost]I am confused though. Serious question. What are the 5DS and R? Are they a science project? I don't get how they fit in now in terms of evolution of the product line.

Dyslexic.

I find Canons aproach strange. Falling sales means they have pulled back on R&D so they only bring a camera out every few years.
Nikon on the other hand have the opposite approach to the same problem. So many models in the line up and a new release every month or so.
In reality I'm not sure which will prove to be the most successful strategy.

I think the 5ds/r are more Niche cameras, high res lower FPS for studio and landscape..for me the 5D4 is more of a general purpose camera...it does everything well, but if you need great then look else where...eg great resolution then it's the 5DS, great AF or FPS then it's the 1d series.

Yeah I think you are right. I dont know, the 5d has been the go to camera for a lot of folks for a while now. I wonder if this is enough to make them upgrade.

To be honest. I am more convinced about Nikon everyday. If they released a mirror less that would take their fx or even dx lenses natively they could do some good things.

Canon I fear are clutching at the lipstick on the pig strategy too much.

No idea you were dyslexic. So no more jokes.

Really wanted to do a dad joke on your latest owl pic but I will hold back at least for an owl or two...

It's ok I'm think skinned. Autocorrect hides it a lot!
Yes a Nikon Mirrorless body with f-mount would be interesting, but as I use pro glass (note that doesn't make me a pro!), the lens weighs more than my body most of the time.
Sometimes I regret selling my 18-55 kit lens for that reason. Remarkably sharp for what it is. Thinking of buying a 50mm for that very reason.

Always got to have a 50...

Yes the thing that hampered Sony initially was lack of lenses. If Nikon did a mirror less comparable to the a7 series that could take new mirror less lenses or the existing f mounts then they would have a killer solution. What we are seeing with the Sony is that despite the body being svelte and trim, the better lenses are still the same size as the DSLR equivalents.

This means either folks will put up with it or just go back to DSLRs as the main advantage - size- is rendered moot...

To be honest my gorilla hands are more suited to a large tool (DSLR)!

While the mythical camera that makes you take better photos is yet to be created, this one will at least produce a larger number of keepers thanks to its clever AF features. It is a bit pricey but I'm sure it will sell by the boatload to the 5D's core market of wedding, event and press photographers who will benefit most.

Personally, I can think of a lot more interesting things to spend the money on and will be hanging on to my old MkII for a bit longer.
