Yup. It works just fine my M1 MBP.

Tested it with the R5 via OBS for 30 minutes and no issues.
hmm, im trying to use it with my EOS-R in skype but its not showing up as a video source. You just set it to any movie mode and thats it, right? i used the Canon USB-C so its shouldn't be that.

If I remember correctly I had problems using the included Canon cable with my iMac. Worked when using a Tether Tools cable. Maybe the cable Canon includes is just for power?

If DHL do their part I’ll have a M1 air arriving today. Will try to use the R as a webcam and report back

I'm also using a Canon DSLR as a web cam (EOS 100D - called the Rebel...something...in the USA), but couldn't get this working, so use a USB video-capture dongle.

The downside is that the camera goes into stand-by after 30 minutes (maximum). Does the EOS Utility allow you to extend this time?

What setup do you use for the Software + hardware? I tried to install the EOS software utility but it doesn't seem to work on my M1. When I go to the application, it just shows the uninstall.

And then I was hoping to use the Camlink 4K, but that doesn't support the M1.

Confused - yet hopefuly - that y'all have got it to work!

Yes it “works” with M1, but it isn’t compatible with Big Sur. It will run via Rosetta. Which means it won’t fully work with most apps. For example, it will work with Zoom if you download and install the latest version of Zoom that isn’t the M1 version of zoom. Since they both will be running via Rosetta they work together. Right now on my M1 it works with zoom via Rosetta but not FaceTime since FaceTime is running native via M1. If you go to your cameras downloads site on canon you will see that Catalina is detected on M1 Mac. There are a bunch of software you can download. If you select Big Sur for your OS then it will tell you there isn’t any software for you to download. Good luck! I spent 3 days researching and digging to get my Camera working with zoom since I upgraded to M1. Bad info everywhere online. Trial and error got me to this conclusion. Check to see if the app you want to use webcam with has a non M1 version to download and you should be good. I haven’t tested with online services but assume since safari is native to M1 the. It won’t work. Maybe if you use Chrome it will? Not sure...

Hi...

I can't install the EOS webcam utility. I'm a Mac user. I did the upgrade from Sierra to Catalina because the file didn't work. However, when I try to download it from Canon, the PKG file doesn't open. I don't know what to do.

Thanks dude! This saves me a lot of thinking time! Makes sense. Will just be patient and wait for Canon to release a Universal version.....

I don’t know off the top of my head. Go to their download center. There are 2 options one for windows and one for Mac. Under the Mac download button is a link for M1 macs. Just don’t click the for M1 Mac link :)

So I have the M1 Mac running Big Sur and at this point I've finally gotten it to work with most of the apps I use and my EOS R5 or EOS R. At the end of the day, you just need to run rosetta versions of everything. I switched to rosetta versions of Chrome and zoom and they both work flawlessly with the camera now, so I don't think it's necessarily Big Sur that poses any issue but just the silicon based version of apps that aren't compatible with the utility just yet

hi, just wanted to add my workaround – trying to use Zoom via Rosetta was too unstable for me (Mac Mini M1). What works, however, is to use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) as the middleman – it runs using Rosetta and can pick up the video feed from EOS Camera Utility. OBS then creates a virtual camera that can be picked up by the native M1 apps (Chrome, Zoom etc).
