This worked for me.
Didn't work for me. Image capture wasn't running. However a spotlight diagnostic scan said that the problem was as follows:

"WARNING: The Gestalt selector gestaltSystem Version is returning 10.9.3 instead of 10.11.3 This not a bug in Gestalt -- it is a doumented limitation. Use NSProcessInfo's operatingSystemVersion property to get correct system version number.
...
WARNING: Method selectRow: byExtendingSelection: in class MFPTreeView is deprecated. It will be removed in a future release and should no longer be used."

I have a Canoscan 9000F flat bed scanner. When I attempt to scan a document I get the following error message: "The scanner is not available while in use by another application or user. 2.249.0" .

I have loaded the latest Canon drivers for the scanner, but no matter what I try I still get the same error message.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any thoughts about a solution?

I fixed this by logging out my other user. First I did it by accident (restarting after reloading the same driver) and couldn't understand why it worked once, but failed again later. The reason it failed again later is that the second user was logged in by then.

I have the same problem. I can print but I cannot scanner with Canon I-SENSYS MF4750 because the computer accepts the MF 4700 not the latest... So wait?

[doublepost=1476896422][/doublepost]I had this issue until new driver software was released recently. My solution was to log out all other users before attempting to use the scanner.

Same thing with the same scanner... The only thing I'd achieved is scanning through System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners -> Scan
Canon drivers need an update and like it was the case with yosemite won't appear before the official release.

How do you scan through: "System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners -> Scan"?
It's a great idea but I couldn't figure out how to do it.
Thanks, Etana
