Here is a zoomed in picture of the damage to the iPhone 16 Pro from that video. I say zoomed in because the picture of the 17 Pro that you referenced earlier is zoomed in about as much if not more.

iphone 16 Pro dropped.png

That is from a drop from about chest high.

The reason that the damage from the 17 Pro looks worse is because the aluminum frame is anodized with the Cosmic Orange on top of it. It makes it look a bit worse than it would look if the color was lighter.

People are making a big deal because Apple changed back from Titanium to Aluminum and people went into this launch preconditioned to believe that the Aluminum frame of the new iPhone 17 Pro was going to be worse and so that now their experience has to fit their preconceived notion.

Again like I said it's nothing new.

Apple should understand that an iPhone is handled more often than any other object during the course of the day. Creating a camera ridge out of aluminum and anodizing it shows poor judgement or they didn’t test it enough in the field to be sure it’s good
Poor judgement by Apple

And if you just go by feel of every iphone in the hand the X has the most premium feel even to this day over the air, if you showed someone who never saw an iphone before they would say the x is the newer one compared to 17pro lol ofc until the screen turns on
And if they’d never seen iPhones previously, they’d say “Wow, the company that makes these phones has really moved in a premium direction with the glossy back and stainless steel sides, and they really shrunk that ugly raised area on the backside of the orange phone, and at the rate they are going, they’ll probably have those cameras flush with the rest of the phone in a year or two!” ;)

I really think the base iPhone 17 is the best looking with it's clear lines and simplicity, a classic no nonsense look if you will.
The Pro looks like a tool and the Air like a beauty, maybe also a bit "premium" (I hate this word).

The thing is I want ALL OF THIS IN ONE DEVICE, haha. A timeless and beautifully designed premium looking iPhone.

Wait...! In the back of my head I hear familiar words:
"Are you getting it? These are not 3 separate devices. This is one device! And we are calling it... iPhone"

(I know, it had a different meaning then)

“A svelte design. Premium materials. Advanced capabilities.

Svelte. Premium. Advanced.
Svelte. Premium. Advanced.

Are you getting it? These are not one device. We’re talking three high margin devices our shareholders will love! We’re calling them: iPhone Affordable, iPhone Compromise, and iPhone Only A Mother Would Love.”

Wait what. Are you gonna argue aluminium is not any softer and easier to dent than titanium? Are we really doing this?

And yes, you can dent everything with enough force against a hard surface. That's why you need the same conditions to be comparing different phones, not some cherry picked random incidents to fit your predetermined opinion.

EDIT: just watched that video some more. It wasn't from "about chest high", that drop was while he held the phone ABOVE his head 🤣

Bring back stainless steel! That thing felt great. In my opinion, iPhone XS was the best design.
They saved the best material for the AIR…thanks Apple but yes, SS better than alum too but phone was getting to 4 pounds, they had to do something with that brick.

Walked into the Apple Store and every Orange/Blue 17 Pro Max on display was already scratched up with MagSafe rings. I got the Silver, and honestly, the Pro feels ridiculously cheap in hand. This is the first iPhone Pro that doesn’t feel like a Pro at all. On top of that, Apple’s marketing is completely misleading they hype it as some kind of ‘invincible’ phone, but the reality couldn’t be further from that. Totally disappointed this year
All that and yet you still bought one?

I have an aluminum Series 10 and... yes... it's not the most "premium" model... I think all people knows this... There's a much more expensive SS model.
