I bought this for my wife for her birthday. This morning I showed it to her. It was setting up on a stand and acting as a picture frame.
She's not technical at all. Her iPhone is almost a total waste on her, but right away, she said, "Is that the iPad?" I said, "It's a picture frame." She laughed and said, "No. That's an iPad!
Well, long story short she LOVED it, but then said, Can I use it in the car while waiting for <our daughter>?
Um, well no. It needs wifi.
Then she shocked me with, Isnt there a 3G version coming out in a few weeks?
Haha. My non-techy wife, who struggles even using the map app on the iPhone knew all this, and shes totally pumped abou the iPad.
I was shocked shed care about taking it with her places and using in the car while waiting, etc.
I hope Apple takes it back without charging me a restocking fee. Ill return it Saturday and that will be 7 days of ownership. Anyone have experience trying to return something like this to Apple?
I am assuming theyll be hassle-free because they seem to usually be easy to deal with. I figure if I at least just get store credit for a 3G, it wont bother them at all.
Anyway, just thought Id share my story.
Im off to order 2 3G iPads now because I want one too!!
PS. This is not a knock on the wifi model. The wifi only is still awesome, and I figure for at least half of users is more than adequate. I assumed my wife would be one of those users and was wrong!
Lastly, I think well ditch her iPhone and expensive data plan because she never uses any of it really other than the phone and contacts. We can do that on a regular cheap, low cost data plan phone, so in the long run, Ill be saving money by having a 3G iPad and no iPhone.
