Hi all my friend gave me an old Macbook Air 2012 It was working so I tried to update the OSX I wiped the drive and got very confused. Now when I try to do a recovery it asks me to choose a network but in the dropdown box there's only three dots. It was connected to he wifi before I started all this. Hope you can help.

Can't connect to wifi in recovery

Try turning off all encryption and passwords for your wifi on the router. Internet Recovery does not work with some types of encryption, so disable for now just to get this done.
