I am a fan of small phones but purchase the Max so it will be my combo of phone and iPad micro. Of course if Apple release a new iPad Mini, I would have made an error in that case, but all reports say no Mini! Plus the trend is big smartphones, so I bite the bullet and just went with it as that is the way to the trend is heading!

I bought the 8 plus last year instead of the X because I didn't want to have to deal with a narrower on-screeen keyboard. I told myself that I'd just wait a year for the plus-size version of the X. But, when it came time to pre-order this year, I just could not bring myself to buy the Max. I cannot comfortably reach the top bezel on my 8 plus with one hand, and I decided that ease of use outweighed the bigger screen size, so I ordered an Xs.

To make the decision even more difficult, the XS is slightly bigger physically than the 4.7” iPhone 6/7/8 and the XS Max is just slightly smaller than the 5.5” iPhone 6/7/8 Plus. So difference from XS to XS Max is smaller than in past years.

I’d say if single handed use and reaching across the screen is important to you, then go with the XS. If you want as much screen real estate as possible go with the XS Max. Both are excellent options, and the XS will feel like a nice large screen in the hand (I’ve been using the X since last year and one handed use is quite important to me).

The only thing I don't like about the larger versions, is that there is no way to stop the homescreen from going into landscape mode when you rotate it. (At least I don't think so.) Should have the option to turn that off in the settings.

Well, fortunately for you with the XS Max there is no landscape home screen.

I like the XS. The screen is big... much bigger than the 7 or 8, but it fits in my pocket much better than the XS max. I Had the plus for a year and was happy to go back to the X. I like being able to use it with one hand and it doesn’t look as crazy when talking on the phone. And let’s get real... the screen is still huge.

I am considering one of these two phones myself: Xs or Xs Max. Ease of use is important to me. This is how I use my phone:
1. Photography
2. Texting
3. Browsing web
4. Google maps

No games, no movies, no social media.

I currently have the x and ordered the max. Never had a plus phone before but I started using my iPad mini less and less and probably the max will eliminate its use completely. If it feels too big for a phone though I’ll return and go to the xs.

Which size iPhones have you used in the past?

One thing I always loved about the Plus was the large screen for taking photos and then editing and sorting them afterward.

I was thinking about this as well. I use an iPad mini, mostly for simple browsing and reading books. Wondering what the 6.5” Max would be like as a replacement for book reading.

XS sounds like the right phone if you don't want the larger screen to be able to check out photos better.
