Actually, I'm probably in a very small minority, but if the Apple watch pairs with an iPad (which Apple hasn't said whether or not it will, those there shouldn't be a technical reason why it won't), and the notification features of the watch work well enough, I'd be able to ditch the iPhone and just use LTE iPad + Apple watch. This is because I hardly ever use the iPhone as a phone. I'd probably want GPS on the watch before I ditch the phone, but I can see this happening in the future.

I bet or believe we will get GPS in ver 2. GPS requires an antenna. Also Apple is putting all circuits on the S chip. So Apple will have to add all GPS processing to the S2 (if 2ed gen) rather than just adding a GPS chip. Also Apple wants billions of hours real world usage to study how best to use battery life.

The Apple Watch isn't set out to replace your phone. It is designed to be a companion to it so you don't have to look at it all the time when you need to see glanceable info. Like when I get a notification for the espen app it would be nice to see it on my watch then have to pull my phone out just to see if my team won or lost (ie like at work where I am really not supposed to be on my phone or when I am in meetings).
