Would calling Apple on an out-of-warranty machine do anything? I do have another Mac with a warranty, so I could immitate that that's the machine that has the issue, if need be.

Not sure doing so will help. Once you get so far into a technical situation like this, they’d want to look at the machine, and you’d be busted. I can’t recall if you mentioned it, but have you tried resetting the NVRAM?

Yes, I've tried resetting the NVRAM and PRAM.
I don't know what to do at this point... Do you have any other troubleshooting steps that I could try?
Thanks again!

The only other suggestion I have is to try VirtualBox and install Windows there. It will probably be a pretty slow experience, especially if you don't have much RAM.
Yeah, I only have 2GB of RAM, though I am planning on upgrading it to 4GB...
It is a mobile Core 2 Duo, so I think the CPU will also be another bottleneck... And a slow hard drive...
Thanks for all the help!
