I'm confused... SMS relay is that when you use iMessage on your phone it also shows up on your mac, and that you can send texts with your cell number instead of just your Apple ID on your mac right? Because the whole texting with my macbook and all that is working great here, as is calling. Or is SMS relay something else? :)

Are you texting non iPhone users?

Aah no, I'm not! So that's why it's working, it only works with iPhone/Mac :D

Hmmmmm. I'm getting non-iPhone SMS texts on my iPhone 6 ... And they show up on my macbookpro. I'll test outgoing in a bit and report back.

I thought SMS relay was something else ... Involves "texting" over WIFI then it's relayed to a cell # and duplex in reverse. It requires a relay service provider.

DingDingDing... Ditto

Dingdingding :)

Ok ... I tested the relay ... and its not up. I can text to and from non-iPhone clients with my iPhone 6/IOS 8; however I cannot text to non-iPhone telephone numbers to and from Mac and they are not relayed to the Mac when made on the iPhone.

Am I to understand that Apple is going to turn on a relay service that will allow sending SMS telephone number messages from and to Mac's with Yosemite that are paired with an iPhone 6 IOS 8? Is this part of the "continuity" grail?

Yes. Not only iPhone 6, iPhones 4S and up are supposed to be supported. At least, it was working for my 4S at some point of the beta of Yosemite with iOS 8 GM.

Oh .. it was working for you, but then it stopped relaying?

Can receive but cannot place calls

Yosemite on MacBook Air and iOS 8.1 on iPhone. Receive calls fine. But got "iPhone and MAC must be on the same Wifi" when I tried to place call. They are on the same wifi network since I can receive calls. Same AppleID. Bluetooth enabled on both and FaceTime preferences checked. Any advice on what to try?

I'm like you except I can't receive calls either.
