I can't typ on iPhones above 12. Typing this on iMac, because on my 14 Pro it couldn't be done.

Don't know how to describe but typing on 14Pro is just ****ed. Can't typ a normal sentence without mistakes. Autocorrect is on but has to correct just everything.

but then, I used my moms phone (12) and everything went smooth and not a single problem at all. Used an iPhone 8 to test. 10 times better. Held the phone next to each other, there is more space between letters it looks.

You should take an old iPhone and type on it, it's just unbelievable. I cant be the only one. Wanted to switch to Samsung just because of this.....

No I have read it on reddit also
Interesting. So you can't type on phones above the iPhone 12. That would mean the iPhone 13, the 14, the 15 and the 16 series. And you've heard about this on Reddit too.

So, since 2021 this has been a major problem. Almost four years. And across at least four models of iPhone.

Strange that there's never been any inkling of this problem HERE on MacRumors in the last four years.

I’ve concurrently used models from very different generations (an iPhone 16 Plus, a 6s, and a 5c), and I haven’t encountered any issues whatsoever on any iPhone. I think it’s a personal problem.

Do you have some sort of screen protector on the problem iPhone? I've had in the past a "glass" protector that was super slick, removed it and my typing changed noticeably.

Well, it can be my personal problem, or it is, doesn't matter, i dont know how to delete this thread so lets post the reddit thread. Which describes it more perfect

Hating how the iOS keyboard functions is not the same as 'I can't typ'. The former, as your link describes, is a preference. Your statement implies that there is some sort of problem that needs to be fixed.

You prefer the keyboard on the iPhone 12, whatever version of iOS your mother is using. But that doesn't automatically follow that every newer model (and newer version of iOS) has a problem. Which is why people are objecting to your preference being a 'problem'. Because it's a preference and not any problem they (we) are actually experiencing.

If you want the thread gone, report your first post and ask a moderator to remove the thread.

Have you tried to install a 3rd party keyboard? If you have and it still doesn't work for you I would vote with my wallet. Get rid of your iPhone and get a phone with a keyboard you like better. Sounds like most on the Reddit thread you posted have done just that..

That Reddit post isn't about how the person cannot type a normal sentence without mistakes which is your issue. The Reddit user is complaining about having to "go into submenus just to add a period or @ on an email field," not having a dedicated number row, and other annoyances.

Per Reddit user Heliumorchid:

But everyday I have to fight against this sh*tty keyboard as it automatically uncorrects my texts, I have to go into submenus just to add a period or @ on an email field. And I suddenly find that the return button is replaced with # at certain layers of the keyboard. And why tf can’t I have a dedicated number row and why must I sacrifice the suggestions row if I install a third party keyboard with dedicated number row?

As for Autocorrect, it's correcting mistakes you're making while for the Reddit user it's uncorrecting what's correct to begin with.

Holy crud, I’m not the only one! I just thought I was just clumsier at 40. But in the last(wow maybe since 2020?) I’ve noticed that iou just hate me. Even when I’m clearly pressing “I” “o” comes up. Same with u, I get I.
I feel like this happened when they revamped autocomplete. They may have adjusted the keyboard then.
But yes, I have also noticed a difference, but only since 2020. (I’ve used a 11,Se2,Se3 and 15 I. That time. The SE2, SE3 and 15 gave me the most crap.)

Exactly the experience I have. Drives me crazy at times. It maybe spacing but I also notice keys appear well below surface if the glass. Is the display layered?

It's been ever since the 11 for me. I don't know if my fingers changed or the screen changed or the size changed, but it's been really annoying because I was decent at it before.

Happens with either one hand or two, I make a ton of mistakes.

It's been many moons ago for me (maybe the iPhone 5?), but I do remember 'predictive text' seemingly "causing" typos, etc. I've had it off ever since, and haven't noticed any issue typing on each new phone / software update that comes out.

If it's on, try turning OFF 'predictive text'. Settings > General > Keyboard > toggle off 'predictive text'.

I'm on about that same timeline with similar issues. Mine started at the 11, got much worse with the 13. Lots of mistyping letters that are next to each other.

Ha! I thought it was me! I have exactly the same experience. It's weird. I guess it's the new 'smart' error correction that doesn't jell with me. Endless typos, and sometimes just plain weird guessing by iOS. I've tried different settings but cam't make it worj. 😉

Idk I have older 11 Pro and never experienced issues. I went from 5 to 6s to Galaxy s10+ and to this iPhone 11 Pro and also had SE3 for a while as my work phone. Typing on SE felt a bit old-school to me. Tried my gf’s 16 Pro and felt no difference with my 11 Pro except that the phone itself feels bulkier and heavier, typing seems to be the same.

On my own phone I have disabled these settings:

Maybe you should also try disabling auto-correction and predictive keyboard
