Can't watch NASA streaming video

I'm driving up to watch the Shuttle launch on friday and thought about killing the time watching the preparations on the NASA web site on my iPad....

(One has to be there a few hours before to get a good parking spot)

Turns out there is no stream I can watch on the iPad, they have a Quicktime stream but I guess Steve Jobs does not want us to watch that either.

Anybody have a suggestion to get this somewhere on the net or do I have to bring my Macbook?
 
Try to relax.

Streaming on 3G would not work well any way.

I envy you as I would love to be there:eek:
 
The constant tab reloading and lack of tab bar kills safari for me. Apple gotta do something about, even my 3gs reloads tabs less it seems. Assign some virtual memory or something!
 
I saw a launch once it's was unbelievable. Hard to describe really.

I've also seen it from a distance, cruzin up.

People in north/mid Florida see it all the time as it's very conspicuous :D

We see the launches all the way up in Northeast Florida in Jacksonville and it looks impressive even at this distance. BUT, to be there, at the cape, I hear is something you will never forget!:rolleyes:
 
You are an early adopter of first generation iPad. As much publicized, iPad lacks support for Flash. As time goes by, most websites (at least major ones) will render and function properly on the iPad.

That said, I am more frustrated by weak tab support (e.g., difficult to open links as a background tab) and poor caching (very tiny cache memory). There are some third party browsers that addresses some of these concerns, but I prefer Safari to do these simple things better.

I watched the last launch on it instead of on the computer, i haven't tried it on my iPad yet (it didn't stay up post launch last time). Even if it was small it would be better than nothing right?

Also, I believe they have an iPhone feed here:

You might have to hunt around for their feed though - i don't have it bookmarked.

ETA: I just got my hands on my iPad and can't get the akamai site to work - even using Atomic Browser and telling it to say its an iPad. It won't launch the viewer like it does on my Touch. HMPH.

AND, the iphone space flight now stream isn't working on the Touch OR the iPad, so there still might be a chance for it.

I'm hoping it is just matter of the sites having something hardcoded and it can be easily fixed...... otherwise, bummer :(
 
Addressing the issues about tabs and general browser functions, not the video stream -

Pay $1 for Atomic Web or $2 for iCab, or better yet, $3 and get both.

They're both good. I think iCab is a little slicker.

Get atomic browser. Not perfect but way better than Safari most of the time.
 
I just got an email - on my way out the door to get closer to the launch, from Nasa TV!

I understand you're interested in watching live NASA TV coverage of today's launch on the iPad.

We wanted to let you know we now have a beta version available for iPad as well as iPhone and iPad Touch.

This is not integrated into an app yet, but you can access it by going to www.nasa.gov/ntv in your web browser and clicking the "Mobile Streaming Beta" graphic in the left column.

We hope this works for you. If you have any issues, feel free to provide us with feedback as we are still testing the capabilities of this feature.

Yup, my daughter watched it all the way out to the Coast, and we lost it due to the blasted temperature thing about 5 minutes before launch. Oops! LOL!!

I'm afraid to see what my data usage just jumped too! :D

This email was in response to one i had sent to Akamai on the lack of an iPad feed. They got me that, but then it didn't have NASA tv, they forwarded my message to NASA apparently, who took the time to send me the info!

I think that really truly rocks! I'd share a picture from our viewing spot, but i have to go cook dinner for some kids first. :D We were about directly due west of the launch pad!

BUT, go sign up at the Kennedy Space Center website for their "Armchair Astronaut" emails and you will be set!
