My sis had booked a window rather than an aisle seat for her flight back to Scotland tonight so that she could watch it from the air...

...but she missed the plane... oops! So she's watching from the bar at a Heathrow hotel.

I remember sitting up for a lunar eclipse until 2 or 3am in the early 80s.

Think of the power that the ancient civilisations who could predict the eclipse had over those who thought it was magic or the gods deserting them.

Cloud coverage. Particularly where the Moon is seen from our viewpoint, there's a heavy layer of clouds with weird looking glows. Looks like the scene from Strange Encounters.

No cloud but lots of haze unfortunately.

Didn't help that I'd left my tripod on the table at home either. :(

We still have 3:12 'til optimum viewing, so there's still hope. But the cloud formations are really wierd here, tonight.

Here's a Moon shot from last year with Canon 70-200 f/4 @ 200 with 20D

I have cropped the image to get rig of the night sky. I just could seem to focus in any clearer than this.

Not a bad shot, thanks for posting.

Is that the color of the moon as seen by the naked eye?

Here's mine...

Canon D60, 400mm f5.6, 2.0sec, 400ISO.

A tad too grainy for my taste, but I was balancing my D60 and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM at full length precariously on a hastily assembled stack of boxes (don't own a tripod). The assembly kept slipping away and longer exposures yielded even more motion blur...

Too cloudy here to see anything above the cloud cover.

Alas...
As someone pointed out, I was in the wrong thread with this:
I expected a big 'X' to appear in it when I put my mouse over it so that I could close the window.

I especially like this one and the three dimensional feel you captured. Nice. :)

Texas, unfortunately.
i thought you weren't supposta look at the moon because you will go blind? or was that a urban myth from my child hood?

That's only for a solar eclipse, where the moon passes in front of the sun during the day. Luner's are perfectly safe.

I took some pretty crappy pics, but thats becasue I own a $100 camera.:p

The Library.
those Mr. Eclipse photos, especially the third one down with the palm trees, looked so, so, so cool! too bad it was cloudy in chicago during the eclipse:mad:
oh well, the moon was still nice tonight, but when I took pictures, it just showed up as sort of a blob of light, without any details...
I wonder why this is!
Anyway, here was my best attempt
