Just what it says. How will you be able to valet your car if you only have CarKey and no physical key? Obviously, I wouldn’t want to leave a key in the car for this purpose.

And will it support 100s of keys, and will it be easy to find the right one? And can they be shared to multiple people at once, so any valet can bring your car back? What if the Valet has an Android?![]()

Yeah, I'm pretty sure when you buy a new car it is still going to come with physical keys! I think folks are over thinking this. You will still most likely get a set of physical keys, but the main focus will be on Apple Carkey.
I would think so but then you'd think that new phones would have complete power supply blocks.Yeah, I'm pretty sure when you buy a new car it is still going to come with physical keys! I think folks are over thinking this.

Sorry but I really just don't see this capability. I can lock /unlock start etc. my car from an app on my phone and don't need to be that near the car. I leave my key in my pocket and lock /unlock start run my car also. Just don't see a big advantage of this

Shhhh, don’t use common sense here! 🤣
Yea there's a few issues with valet:Wow, you guys are kind of obnoxious. I don't know where you live, but it's not possible to predict every single occasion where I might be forced to valet my car (which I hate doing). And yes, I saw that you can share you key via CarPlay, but that can be problematic if the valet doesn't have a compatible device.
Interesting, though I'd rather not have another thing in my wallet. I'm pretty minimalist. Debit card, credit card, ID a few bills. That's it.Works like this for Tesla... there is a credit card looking "key" that I keep in my wallet. In my car, I have a little clear badge holder with my car model/color/license plate info on it, so the valet can hang it up with the other traditional keys inside their lockbox.View attachment 931618

Just give him your phone. Problem solved.Just what it says. How will you be able to valet your car if you only have CarKey and no physical key? Obviously, I wouldn’t want to leave a key in the car for this purpose.
Understood, I strive for ultimate minimalism myself. The extra "card" for the key functionality is really not that bad (compared to a real key), considering I don't even need my phone to unlock/drive my car - there's an Apple Watch app (LTE) for that! I literally no longer carry a keychain, and could leave the wallet behind in a pinch and just walk out the door as long as I'm wearing my watch.
No keys, no phone, just Apple Watch. All I need for a quick trip to Trader Joe's or anyplace else that takes ApplePay.
Lolz.Just give him your phone. Problem solved.
Don't you need a driver's license though?
But if it works at least AS reliably as a physical key, what’s the downside? One less thing to carry/have on you.Carkey is the latest example of a solution in search of a problem.
We solved keys with fobs. You don’t need to even pull them out of your pocket; hand on handle to unlock, push button to start, etc.
Its easy to hand off, and if it dies, each car has a backup method of unlocking and starting.
Relying on a phone creates more inconvenience and adds more points of failure to a pretty well established model.
But if it works as reliably as ApplePay - then it would be an issue. I find ApplePay works first time maybe 75% of time - otherwise several attempts needed. But if it works at least AS reliably as a physical key, what’s the downside? One less thing to carry/have on you.
