so after doing this carrier hack, i now get 5 bars on my LTE and around 40/Mbps down, and around 12/Mbps up.

here is a link where the file is and intructions on how to do it.

https://sites.google.com/site/carrierhacks/

edit:

run terminal first before you try to do anything... you can plug your phone in then copy paste: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

that will make itunes apply a .ipcc file to your phone, else its greyed out.

Would be nice to have a revert tutorial for those wanting to go back to the original carrier IPCC

A bit off topic, but does anyone know if the TMO IPCC removes the international data throttling? Presently, with international data, it's throttled to EDGE speeds (even when the network roaming on says 3G\4G).

Thanks!

NO! Throttling is handled at the carrier's end..nothing you do on your phone will change that.

Darn, that would have been cool.

How does that work when the iPhone is connect to another carrier's network? So if I am in Japan on SoftBank, and load a web page, the page is sent through SoftBank to T-Mobile to the internet then back to T-Mobile then to SoftBank to my phone? I understand how TMO throttles on their own network, but how does that work with another carrier? They always offer my a high speed data upgrade while I'm traveling, but I've never tried it since it defeats the "free intl roaming" concept. LOL

Applying the carrier settings hasn't really changed anything for me. Still on the 1 bar that I was on.

I don't think it actually increases reception, I think it just represents the signal as higher number of bars...

so if you had -96 dbm before and it translated to 2 bars, now it translates that same reading to 3 bars. Just a guess, since the IPCC can't create signal where signal doesn't exist.

Thanks for explaining. How come so many others are experiencing a better reception? Not just in number of bars, but speed of connection as well.

No idea. Maybe the amount of stress (throughput) the device pushes through a connection is in response to a certain signal level? Not sure the details of how it works. Clearly there's a reason the speed\throughput is toned down... My guess is they limit it to create a balance between speed and battery usage. Time will tell when we start getting more long-term battery usage indication.

I just did a network reset, the Carrier version is still AT&T 20.1.5 but I got LTE back and speed of 44mbps, so that saved everything :p

Yeah, all you do is turn LTE back on in settings. This hack helped a lot with reception at my house. Work seems about the same. Obviously it's somewhat tower related. When I go inside I would always go from full signal outside to 2 - 1 bars inside. The worst was when I made a call it would switch to 4g and the signal would drop to 1 bar. I would consistently have problems keeping the call connected. Now when I place a call I stay on LTE and my reception has really improved. I'm impressed. I wonder is this enables VOLTE on AT&T.

Two questions:

When it says "press shift and click RESTORE" is that RESTORE BACKUP... or RESTORE IPHONE... ???

Also, is it true I have to turn off find my iPhone to do this task?

I used shift + update not restore. It worked fine and I didn't have to turn off Find My iPhone.

Where are you seeing the dbm? I can't find it.

Don't press any restore button. Press shift and "check for updates" and it'll allow you to update the ipcc.

I've just done the patch on tmobile ip6 and the enable LTE setting seems to have disappeared along with the choice to allow voice over LTE (voLTE).

Anyone else with the same issue?

VoLTE now automatically enables itself once you're connected to LTE. The VoLTE menu in Settings > Cellular was replaced with the 2G, 3G, and LTE toggle menu so users have more flexibility in choosing which network they'd like to connect to for better signal strength and saving batter life.

pretty sure you are the one that made this happen?

So I'm having speed issues even after reverting back to Verizon 18.0.. >_>

EDIT: So I was an idiot and deleted everything under carrier bundles and am now having a problem getting any data to work. Is there any way to fix this without restoring? D:

EDIT2: loljk. I somehow got Verizon 14.1 installed? *****?

Yeah.. I did. I thought that would get me back to stock but I probably already was, I just didn't think I was. That'd be amazing! Because right now I can only get LTE if I do the hacked carrier bundle or turn on roaming! I'm about to restore if I have to before they stop signing 8.1, but I'd much prefer this simpler route if it works. And now I'm having trouble getting iMessage to work altogether. I guess until I test out the solution of using your files I'll use the hacked one..

EDIT: If I do end up having to restore, it won't recover the hacked carrier profile from the backup, right? D: I guess I should probably backup without it there and it'll use the ones from the IPSW?

Just curious as to why you would wanna go back to stock? This hack is pretty awesome. I get much better service bow in places where I've had little to none previously.

My eyes are way too acustomed to 828x1472, no way can I go back. Don't worry, I wouldn't restore unless I was positive they were still signing 8.1 from a few sources. Anyway, I'm on a Verizon 128GB (probably not relevant) iPhone 6 running 8.1.

There are a couple sites that show if the ipsws are still being signed. I think there are links somewhere in this thread and also you can find it by Googling.

I want to go back to stock for a couple reasons. It is pretty awesome for /you/, I get staggering, inconsistent speeds lower than before. I don't know, maybe I should test it in a better area. And I definitely want to go back now after I messed up and don't have the option to with ease..
