I have one of those on my 10.5 with a smart cover. Works great! If smart covers were available that would have been my choice. Keeping eyes open for a smart cover

will just be using this till there is a smart cover available either from apple or third party. delivers Friday with amazon prime so i will have it in plenty of time before i get my iPad on November 7 and wont have to worry about scratching the back :)

It doesn’t look like it does. What makes you think it covers the sides, l sure hope it does.

Aftger looking closely I can see it does not cover. Have posted a question to Apple on how the Smart folio attaches to the device. Maybe magnetic on the hinge edge but what about the opposite edge. Mine will be here on Friday so I will know for sure by then.

What? It does cover the sides. The bottom is held onto the device by clipping around the sides.

Sorry from the images it looks like it could be similar to the Smart Cover but it covers the back too. its held on by magnets. The 10.5 iPad pro has magnets on the sides and not the top which allows the Smart cover to stay flat while using. So you basically have a Smart Cover that covers the front and back. Even though its a folio case, it connects like a Smart cover.

It looks pretty nice. I like my 10.5 smart cover. If Apple uses the same soft material, it should be nice addition. Only thing is I don't get the $80 price.

For my UK friends : http://amzn.eu/d/08UD47h

£10 and I've used JETech before, they are fine for the price. Will definitely tide me over until i decide whether i need to spend stupid money or not.

Only question is, does the pencil magnet still work with this case...

Until manufacturers start stating that in the description, or showing pictures, we won't know. Unfortunately, JETech doesn't have this case available in the US store yet.

This case was designed based on early renders it seems as it clearly doesn't match up with the final iPad design. I bought a JETech for my 10.5 on release as it was the first available and it didn't fit correctly. To be fair, a couple of weeks later they shipped a redesigned case that did fit correctly. For the money they are good cases but I would be inclined to wait until they can show a true product image and not based on a render.

They’ve got the Jtech on eBay:

This one looks interesting too:

Though it looks like both of those ^ don’t allow for the Apple Pencil.

My Apple Smart Folio arrives tomorrow. My understanding is that it attaches with magnets all around and leaves the side free for the Pencil. We’ll see!!

Come on 11/07 :D

I guess it depends on what you mean by "fit". If the device goes into the case and doesn't fall out, it'll be fine for day 1 use to protect against scratches and drops. I don't really mind if the speaker cutouts or whatever are in the wrong place?

I need something on day 1 tho, can't go naked.

Yup, that's essentially what happened last year - camera and microphones were obscured if I recall correctly but the case did fit otherwise.

I've been using Luvitt products for back protection for my last three iPads. They are very good and when the one they made for the 10.5” iPad Pro didn’t fit properly when it was introduced, the company quickly got it fixed and sent replacements out to buyers. I will be getting one for my new iPad just as soon as Apple releases their Smart covers.

I learned my lesson with the last couple of iPads I bought--I never trust 3rd party cases this early in a launch. They often either don't fit correctly at the corners, don't line up correctly with ports, speaker grills, etc., or don't fit snugly enough in general, which can cause more damage to the iPad than just not using a case at all.

This was an especially big problem with my 10.5" model. I bought two different back covers on Amazon from two different companies--neither of them fit correctly. Eventually decided to throw money at the problem and get a Tech21 back cover, which I used for quite a while, but it was SO EXPENSIVE.

This time around, I'm just thankful that there is an Apple manufactured solution that covers the front and back so I can have peace of mind when I lay the thing down somewhere and I know that it will fit right out of the box.

I would only go with a few 3rd Party Cases companies. Spigen, Tucano, or Poetic. They've been spot on with their specks. If they don't have what I need I would go with Apple. The Poetic cases I recommend cause they give you a nice coverage. they are cheap and pretty durable.

The 12.9 Gen 3 Apple Portfolio Case attaches by magnets to the front and back of the iPad. It covers the hinge side only where the case folds. The other 3 sides are totally uncovered. I'm holding my case in my hand.
