@Heat_Fan89 or anyone Have you tried Catalina vs Mojave on the 2012 Mac mini? I'm interested, because reading comments like "it runs just fine" doesn't really help. Is it slower, more beachballs etc. in any respect?
Cheers!
Sorry for not seeing your comment much earlier. Yes, I installed Catalina on my 2012 Mini. Boot up speeds are a little slower with an SSD but not by much vs Mojave (+2 secs with Catalina). Overall system responsiveness is just a tad slower but again not by much. I did not encounter any Beachballs once I added an internal SSD. I had previously upgraded the internal RAM to 8GB but that really didn't improve things but the SSD definitely did. System stability is good just like it was with Mojave, HS and Sierra.

I've currently just parked my 2012 Mini and have been using my 2018 Mini instead.

yes me too, anyone? i am on high sierra which runs great on my mini 2012 with ssd and this year it will stop security updates so i am thinking of updating, so should i try mojave or catalina?
I am happy with Mojave 10.14.6 and you will not find many people in this forum complaining about it. It is also the last MacOS in which, if desired or needed, it is possible with some additional steps before and after installation, to keep the main drive in HFS+ although that is not what Apple wants.

I am running Catalina on a Mid-2010 MacBook after trying out Mojave and I think Mojave ran a bit better on it.

Interesting. Catalina isn't even a choice on my 2015 MacBook Pro. I'm okay with that because I need some legacy 32-bit applications anyway.

It's funny, really. This forum was filled with people who had nothing but problems with Mojave and complained about it to the high heavens. Now with Catalina, Mojave has suddenly become the poster-child of speed, stability, and features.

Not really, but it's irresponsible to suggest to the cluebies that they go back to High Sierra, which will lose security updates shortly, or Sierra, which already has.

Did someone suggest downgrading to High Sierra? Ewwww... I agree, not a good idea.

speed aside, Mojave was stable and smooth and reliable, only beachballing in Final Cut Pro. Catalina has several incomplete features that only work halfway, and a lot of basic OS functionality that cause me hangs and crashes on a daily basis.

Yeah it is. Because Mojave was unstable and slow (at least until 10.14.6), but Catalina is much worse. So Mojave has become the "stable" one between the two.

I am on a 2018 Mini with Mojave. I have no issues at all and am trying to figure out if I should go to Catalina. Thoughts? I guess a better question is what are the "gotta haves" from Catalina that I am missing out on?

My point was that I *would* suggest downgrading back to High Sierra, were it not for High Sierra being about to lose Security updates. Neither Mojave nor Catalina have anything that matters, other than that.

BTW, High Sierra still receives security updates, as demonstrated today.
(not a reply to your post, but for those who say HS is "dangerous" because of security updates)
