For those who mentioned getting the cellular tablet because it includes a GPS, what do you use that for?

Its too big to be walking around a city with your face in an iPad. Driving, is similarly awkward, maybe having it on your lap, but that would seem rather dangerous, i.e., looking down at your lap while driving.

Apps like Starwalk etc really shine on the 12.9" screen vs a phone screen! I got the cell version this time around because last time I was hating that I couldn't use my IPP in middle of nowhere staying in a cabin where there was no mobile signal to use to tether anyway, and no WiFi so I could not use triangulation on iPas apps for location. So the Starwalk app, etc were useless. There are other apps too like Wikitude, which are good for finding local sites of interest just by moving your screen around. Lots of apps use GPS besides the usual maps. Augmented Reality apps are sprouting up all the time!

To the OP: I always go with cellular support. It's great to have and like insurance you're very happy when you have it and need it. ;)
Yeah. I got a wifi-only iPad (2017) for my dad back in March and I'm regretting that choice now.

I'm trying to look for a good deal on an LTE version for their upcoming trip. My cousin can help them with initial local SIM card and service setup but they're not always gonna have tech help during the trip. They really shouldn't be connecting to risky, free wifi hotspots, anyway. Besides, they're kinda resistant learning how to set-up that stuff. They just want their devices to work so they can Facebook, etc.

If I remember correctly for yourself also you have gone for the Wi-Fi only 10.5" iPad Pro this year right ? And earlier in this thread you seem to be suggesting to the OP that only Wi-Fi is not really a bad option either, so why this change in opinion ? Just curious...

I have a cellular Pro 12.9 (and a Pro 9.7 from last year).

The 2017 iPad 9.7 is for my dad. Went wifi-only because he's almost always at home. A few months after I got the iPad, my mom decided they were going on an overseas trip. The thing is I had a ~$100 BB GC when I got the 2017 iPad with iPad 3 trade in so going LTE would have only cost me $359 then. In our specific case, getting cellular would've been good insurance - better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
