This is incorrect, Apple does mention improving the scratch resistance for the iPhone 12

Apple doesn't say anything about improving scratch resistance on iPhone 12. They don't say whether it's improved, diminished, or stayed the same compared to iPhone 11.

Dual-ion exchange is the basic process by which Gorilla Glass is created. It was patented over a decade ago.

Well that’s disappointing. Isn’t ceramic very resilient to scratches? Hopefully it’s at least improved on it, cuz I noticed my 11 scratched way more easily than my XS

Apple usually treats the frontglass with some antireflective coating and i think that is the one that gets the microscratches... which is likely why the back of my X still has zero scratches, but the front has plenty of microscratches.

It is more scratch resistant for anyone who is wondering according to Apple. Here is the evidence:
I don’t know if 11 pro also had this same technology or if they also treated their front glass the same as their back glass but I’m guessing not. I do think they must’ve made advancements on scratches since last year we got complaints on it. We got complaints for silver models having its stainless steel scratched too so Apple went ahead and used PVD for silver for this year too finally after 3 years. Maybe they are finally making it scratch resistant too? It does say it will for sure protect against everyday wear and tear and nicks so I think it’ll be fine unless you plan to scratch it with a blade.

For anyone wondering the back glass has a hardness of 7 on Moh’s scale. It matches the back glass’s technology so we know it’ll be at least a toughness of 7. Maybe 6 at the least.

Check out Jerry Rig everything’s test on last years 11 pro max model. It will not scratch unless you use an 8 or above. Just don’t scratch it with diamonds lol. But I’m so excited this will be the first year that you won’t need a screen protector and can use the phone naked.
