Considering that they've already launched two new iPads this fall and had an even that focused on them, I would say that it's extremely unlikely that another new iPad will be announced this year. Just filling all the orders of the current models seems to have their hands full.

I would love that but I doubt we’ll see OLED.
Why not Apple is a Samsung customer. It’s a lot cheaper to buy a Samsung off the shelf part. Such as the 12.9 or 11” OLED 120hz HDR Display. Apple embraces OLED in its iPhones in its Apple watches. And we may get an OLED MacBook Pro at 16” because that’s another Samsung off the shelf part.

You don't have to sell me on the idea! I agree. LTPO OLED(or AMOLED) with Promotion (24-120hz no *just* 120hz) seems like the better, more logical choice.

However, all the rumors (for several years) have pointed to mini-LED—which I don't think lives up to the hype but we'll see.

EDIT: I do agree with Kjs100 that 1st quarter 2021 is more realistic and I think they'll add 5G support.

I don't understand why do people would like to see OLED on the iPad Pros or Macbooks. I love OLED or AMOLED screens and definitely I would love the deep blacks on my ipad pro or macbook. But screen burn-in is not a concern for you when you think of an OLED Macbook or Ipad?

I mean, on the phones, it is nice, because people hardly ever use the same apps for extended time but on computer there are people who use Photoshop, Excel, File Maker Pro or other softwares for hours non-stop, so wouldn't you be concerned that those elements could burn-in your expensive ipad's or macbook's screen after a certain time?

Just curious. Why do most people think we will get a new iPad Pro next March?
Looking back to the past, the iPad Pro seems to be updated on a ~1.5yr cycle. So wouldn't we expect the next iPad Pro in Fall2021 instead?

I am probably going to buy an iPad Pro during Black Friday, but if the March2021 rumor is true then I will probably wait.

I wouldn’t expect a new iPad Pro until at least June/July 2021. I expect A14X, Mini LED, 5G support, 6 GB RAM. Unknown screen sizes. Some have hinted at new sizes next year (up to 15” even). Others have mentioned 12.9” returning, but 11” hasn’t been explicitly mentioned in rumors.

Not sure why March keeps getting mentioned, other than the fact that the 2020 Pros launched in March. If they refresh in March, it’ll be the shortest gap between generations so far. It could happen if Apple’s interested in replacing the A12Z in their iPad lineup ASAP. But if that was the case, I wonder why they didn’t just use an A13X in the 2020 Pro, or simply give it a silent refresh this quarter with A14X.

By not announcing a new Pro alongside the new Air and new vanilla iPad, it’s made for lots of great debates over what is the best iPad to buy right now. People that want an iPad now will still buy one, and people willing to wait will be ready to fork over their money next year. It’s win-win for Apple.

Absolutely. It’s a brilliant move by Apple.

I think it’s because the 2020 Pro was an incremental update over the 2018 model. Also, the performance of the A14 used in the Air 4 is uncomfortably close to that of the A12Z. In some cases, the single-core performance of the Air 4 gives it the advantage. For those reasons, I’m also expecting to see new Pros in or around March 2021.

Apple have tended to skip generations of their X chips recently, I believe that’s because the Pro models typically have a lifespan of longer than a year. I’m sure it would have cost a lot more to develop an A13X than to use the A12Z, which is essentially just a binned version of the A12X.

In October they began selling the new Air. They want you to buy that now and and then in 6 months or a year they want you to be blown away by the capabilities of the new iPad Pro.
In November they are selling you the new AS Macs.
A new iPad Pro right now fits right between those two products and doesn't help Apple. They want you to buy a new Mac and a new iPad NOW!....and then when the new iPad Pro comes out maybe you will kick that hardly used green iPad to the side and upgrade to the newest shiniest fastest iPad ever.
There's no way in hell a new iPad Pro is coming out at the end of 2020.

In March Kuo predicted a 12.9 mini led iPad Pro would be released by late 2020 but then around May he implied that covid might delay. Latest from Kuo is the IPP mini led display will be through production by the end of this year so a release would seem early next year.

Twitter's fairly reliable Lovetodream predicts Q1 or Q2 2021

I personally believe we will see new pros in March (COVID depending), likely an iPad Pro 11 with A14X, 5G and an iPad Pro Max 12.9 with the same as the 11 but with miniLED, so there is something more than just screen size to make you buy the larger version of the pro, similar to what they have done with iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max (with the camera upgrade on the larger model).

If this is the case I do think the display difference between the current display and the miniLED is likely to be marginal at best, its not going to be a night and day difference like it was when retina was introduced.

My guess is that Apple will be giving us a new tier in Pro iPads (Or at least one that fulfills the “Pro” moniker).

As it is, the differences between the iPad, Air and Pro are more about “luxuries“ than they are about abilities. The hope is that if they are porting Mac programs to ARM then we may also get ports to iPads. So new Pro hardware may have more to it than just a more expensive name.

(BTW, the reason I just bought a new iPad Pro is because I have no faith in Apple actually doing this and instead they’ll just raise the prices again for the next new unnecessary luxury gimmick.)

I have been saying the same thing for years as it pertains to the phones and lately iPads. How much more do I really need this to do to warrant the extra ‘oomph’ these processor upgrades give us? Mind you, I don’t game w/ my iDevices - so really for me and pretty much everybody I know its not like last gen hardware or even the previous gen hardware was ‘slow’.

What is mini-LED going to give me? If I need my another non-miniLED devices side by side in order to see the difference, I don’t really care about it. Does it make the battery last longer? Maybe I DO care about that - but at what cost? If its more expensive then what is currently being offered - then again really don’t care about it.

I'm getting really annoyed that the iPad Pro is getting the short end of the stick. Bells and whistles aside, the Air is the better value the money. I wouldn't be so salty if the Air 4 wasn't released when it was. It should have came after the Pro, not before. It's like Apple is purposely trying to alienate the Pro. Where does it stand against an Arm Macbook? Isn't that the product it's trying to be? I just want my A14x iPad Pro already!

Sort of is and sort of isn’t it just depends how you want to look at it.

I think the Air is only tempting because of the storage options available which has managed to give it a lower entry level price, but had Apple released the Air with a base storage of 128GB like the Pro it would have had an entry price of £679.

With that in mind for an extra £100 you are getting all those bells and whistles which make the pro a better overall device (speakers, cameras, pro motion, slightly larger and brighter display, Face ID).

For me the Pro still has a significant enough advantage over the Air, now had the Air come with a base storage of 128GB at the price that it is or if the base wouldn’t have increased over last gen for the 64GB base it would be an entirely different story.

Of course, but with one little catch... It's still a two year old chip. That is the one thing about the Pro that I still don't feel comfortable with. I own the 2020 Pro, and I have noticed a few little stutters here and there. It may be iOS 14, but it definitely wasn't there with iOS 13. I use my iPad for hours and hours, and you do really start to notice those things.
