Of course, but with one little catch... It's still a two year old chip. That is the one thing about the Pro that I still don't feel comfortable with. I own the 2020 Pro, and I have noticed a few little stutters here and there. It may be iOS 14, but it definitely wasn't there with iOS 13. I use my iPad for hours and hours, and you do really start to notice those things.
I am sorry, but I don’t quite follow. With iOS 13, those stutters were not there on the 11” IPP you say. But with iOS 14, there is. Can’t that just be a case of iOS 14 not being optimised rather it being reflective of the inadequacy of the chip? Yes, if the new Air did not suffer that same stutters, then it would indeed suggest that the 11” chip is the likely issue. But I have not yet read of such a complaint. Rather, what I have read is that the new Air owners are reporting some stutters with PubG and the likely reason for that is that PubG may not yet have been optimised for the new Air.

Yeah I get that with the chip, but I will be honest I am experiencing stutter with my iPhone 12 Pro so I think this will be prevalent on the Air 4 also for the time being, hopefully 14.2 will fix it

iPhone 12 owners are reporting the same stutter on pubg, so it’s definitely optimisation issues with the A14 SoC. The Air 4 in particular is top of the charts on geekbench 5 Metal GPU scores so it should run pubg like butter but at the moment it does not.

I'd say based on this front page news story: https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/05/ipad-parts-used-in-iphone-12-to-combat-shortages/

There's zero change of any imminent iPad Pro; if they're struggling to fulfil iPhone 12 orders; they aren't about to launch iPad Pro's needing the same parts.
This is the exact reason why I didn’t wait for next years iPad Pro, I can see that even if the next iPP gets announced in March the delivery times are going to be loooooong!

With the vast majority not getting their hands on one until Mid 2021, I really think we may not see an iPP refresh until mid-late 2021, the next gen might skip the A14 altogether and just opt for the A15X and release in October 2021.

For Apple their iPhones will take priority over the iPads and since launch in March the iPP’s have had long wait times and still do. I think skipping a refresh in early 2021 might be a way Apple can then catch back up with demand

A14 is specifically optimized for iPadOS14. Since the Pros ship with iPadOS13 preinstalled I think it’s for certain that the Air will perform a little bit better and maybe even receive a extra year of upgrade, since it comes with iOS14 out of the box. I think Rene Ritchie also said this in his review.

Those are the drawbacks of the A12Z chip. It’s a supercharged chip and still really fast, but at the end of the day it’s an A12 chip, with less single core and Neural Engine performance. Since 80% of what you do on an iPad doesn’t rely on multi-core, the A14 has the slight edge. Even at a slight multi-core disadvantage its not behind by a lot, whereas the single-core benchmark gains are much more noticeable. As someone else said, this sparked a lot of debate on which device is the better one to get right now, ultimately sparking interest in both devices and the upcoming Pro as well.

When the 2021 Pro’s are released it’ll have a huge performance gain and it might be the first device thats strong enough to blur the lines between the Mac and iPad OS, which is why people are excited. At the moment it’s unclear if Apple will make that jump with the software on iPadOS15. I’m certain the 2021 Pro’s are a variant of A14 and not the A15, and is probably in production as we speak.
