Am I missing a way to do this? For me so far, it’s showing only two different photos (switching between just the two) that are not great. Please tell me we have some control over which photos show.

Mine doesn’t say either of those. Just shows one of the two photos with a title for the picture.
it does for me. (Cropped the on this day one due to people in photo).

All of mine are like your first photo. And it still just cycles through the same random three photos from the same day 3 years ago.
Useless widget until you can pick your own album in my opinion. What if you forget you had a dick pic on your phone taken years ago and suddenly it gets thrown all over the screen.
I hope you have a 11 Plus Max phone & not the original iPhone 3G !! 😄

They haven't changed to anything else since you installed iOS 14? As mine have, different batches of photos each day
I suspect that they might bring it at some point, in the same way that the News widget can be changed between Top Stories to a Category of your choice.
As for Dick pics, surely those would be in the 'Hidden' folder, so no-one accidentally stumbles onto it? lol.
haha that was just a drastic example of something embarrassing that could pop up at any time without having an option to choose. i am not saying I have those 😝
While I love your example, I agree that there should be some control. I keep showing my wife the picture that pops up and all I hear is "WHY DID IT SELECT THAT UGLY PICTURE????" LOL
I don't know why people in this thread are having troubles with this widget. I've been thoroughly enjoying the Photos widget. It seems like every time I look at my phone I get to see a new picture of me/my wife/my kids and every one of them has been wonderful to see. It's definitely my favorite widget.
Please join me in submitting feedback to Apple about this widget. It should offer a favorites alternative. As far am I’m aware, we have no ability to change which pictures are included in the featured section due to it being a system recommendation. I like the concept, but would much prefer to see photos that I actually wish to see.

It alternates between Featured & On This Day. I don’t agree that it ‘should be a favourites widget’ instead. It should be something we can change. It could be that it’s coming, as you can clearly tell Apple hasn’t finished it’s own widgets, as there’s some old style ones they’ve not got in iOS 14 yet.
A favorites widget would do exactly what you just said. You control which pictures go into favorites. Therefore, you would be choosing which photos go into the widget. Potayto-potahto.

the fact that this is likely to happen, is by the fact the News widget gives options.
I was actually mildly annoyed that I had to add the photos icon to my Home Screen because tapping the photo in the widget takes me to that photo rather than the main photos page.
