How many unique pictures does it show for you? Mine cycles between three, over and over.
Yeah, I noticed that, too. So far I’m just tapping the widget to get into photos in order to have one less app on the screen.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. So far I’m just tapping the widget to get into photos in order to have one less app on the screen.
I might end up doing that. I’m riding the one Home Screen train, and that photos icon is taking up valuable space.
That was a random example of something awkward that may appear.
It reminds me of when Facebook starting sending users notices of memories that were intended to be happy reminders, but they selected dates of funerals and stuff. "On This Day, just for you...your mom died. Congrats!"
I'm presumingly (accurately, I hope) that any "hidden" pix will not be excluded from the algorithms' decision-making here.

I feel the opposite. I like that there a quick glimpse at something without offering a full wormhole of activity. I can always tap to get into the app.
Finally got a new picture in the rotation today. Now it’s showing my passport photo as my featured photo. Great.
Mine have been different every day. Bouncing between new ones in featured and ones in Memories (Different ones in each, each day).
I would suggest, have you checked the photos app, in the ’For You’ section, are the Featured photos and Memories changing in there daily? If so, but the widget isn’t, then there’s definitely a bug (either way, there’s a bug there with yours).
I get new photos in my widget every hour it feels like. I've had a few repeats here and there, but I'd say 90% it's a photo I haven't seen in the widget before. Of course with time that will become less often, but so far it's done an excellent job of showing me tons of exciting photos and memories that I haven't seen in a long time. I'm loving it!
Something I just thought of, how many pictures do you have on your phone? Maybe the more photos you have, the greater variety the photos widget is able to provide.
They do change. Actually today I started seeing new photos. In addition to my lovely passport photo, I'm seeing a picture of my realtor when I was house hunting (he stepped into the shot). So...very exciting.
I have thousands of pictures, like 60GB. So, there are a few to pick from. All actually synced with iCloud.
Agreed, let’s just say I’m an amateur film maker/ photographer when it comes to me and my wife. I can’t have 80% of my photo album display on that widget. So they need to let me select particular photos.
When you set up the widget I believe you can switch between 3 different settings, but they all come from the "for you" page. If I could pick my favorites folder this would be the best thing to come out of the upgrade, I love seeing a good pic pop up when I open my phone. Work in progress...
I was getting different ones and enjoying it, but now it's been the same image for 2 days. I deleted the widget and re-added it, and still same photo.
Unpopular opinion: adults can have sexual endeavors without being shamed for it OR having Apple display it on their Home Screen.
for the record though, I have a variety of different kinds of photos, from trips, to pets, nudes, memes, wallpapers I saved and in the last month, it has only ever featured good and/or appropriate photos.
Still working great for me. I'm still getting all sorts of new photos and memories to look at.
I apologize if I sound condescending to those who are not as happy with the widget as I am. I hope that Apple works out the kinks or adds the necessary options so that it works well for everyone.
The featured photos feature of the photos app is heavily flawed anyways imho. You have no control over what photos show there and no way to hide one if it upsets you (e.g. recently passed away pet or an ex of yours you still want to keep the pictures of but... not in your face style).
the photos being used are from the Memories & Featured section in the For You section, so you just need to remove pics like that from that section and it hides it from the widget. Maybe they’ll add those controls to the widget, but not sure they have that capability to be coded like that.
Only way to hide a featured photo is to delete it or add it to the hidden folder. That‘s not intuitive when memories can be deleted / blocked.
Incorrect. There is an option to remove from Featured Photos.
