This driving me crazy. Many moons ago I had an iPhone and a 2015 MacBook Pro. Same Apple ID and password. iCloud was the same password.
I get a new MacBook Air. I'm just starting to move data. First I wanted to update my Apple ID password. Using iCloud all was well. When I went into iCloud to enter a password it wouldn't use the old one I had saved, would use the new Apple ID password.
It would use my MacBook Air password. Where is the security in that!?!

I have tried to figure out how to change the iCloud password and it keeps sending me back to change the Apple ID password. Been there, done that twice.

Any help, or should I let my iCloud password the same as my LT login?

I believe you’re logging into iCloud with a passkey on a known device. Try to log in from a different machine and it’ll be your Apple ID password required. This machine is trusted with a passkey so its login credentials can be used. Including Touch ID. Apple ID and iCloud are the same thing login wise.
