haha yes thats about right... its an ATT sim, so maybe not roaming capable, but what about just on att's network?

This is the technical equivalent of saying, "Hold my beer. Watch this.".

Using a deactivated ATT SIM on the ATT network to steal service. Keep us posted.

is it just me or is this thread just getting worse and worse.. I'm losing brain cells just thinking what people are asking or expecting.

Hey man, is there a hack out there that I can drive my car without putting gas in it?

Why yes, yes there is.

This became stupid from a valid question (UPDATE)

Forget stupid comments and asking of getting free service. The original question was straight and valid.

Why should AT&T FORCE YOU (right, force down your throat) into a data plan if you don't want one?

So I think I found a good solution:

I have a pay as you go Tmobile, it costs 0 to maintain, and 10c/min for phone calls and messages. HOWEVER, I put that sim into an Android Smartphone (Tmobile samsung exhibit II $200 in Amazon). I disabled DATA over the network (very easy), and use the internet in my home and work over WIFI (free).

When I am on the road and I want/need data (less than 10 days a year), I simply logon Tmobile and pay either $2 or $3 for ONE day of unlimited phone/text/data at either 3G or 4G speeds depending on what I pay. And that's it.

As an added advantage I bought the phone on Amazon and called Tmobile to SIM Unlock the phone (I have been their client for more than 3 months).

Now I have a Samsung Exhibit II 4G, SIM unlocked, Rooted, with free internet over WIFI, and I only pay for data strictly when I want to use their data network (rather than forced into a plan by the SOBs of AT&T). Other than that (99% of the time) I simply use it for free on WiFI. That's what I wanted from the beginning.

WHY SHOULD YOU PAY AT&T FOR A SERVICE THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING.

WHY SHOULD YOU PAY AT&T FOR A SERVICE THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING.

Easy because they made a deal with Apple and they want to make money. There is a Chinese tool that can change IMEI on phones, but I'm not sure if they can do it with iPhone. Since ziphone, I wonder why nobody has attempted to make an IMEI hack. It would prove to be very useful especially with the situation of data plans and fools selling you banned phones. The A5 boot roms where dumped and there is probably somebody out there with IMEI hack, but they probably wont offer it to the public for selfish reasons. I know Apple definitely has a way to change it, but nobody would ever have access to those tools. I hope someone figures out a way in the future and gives it freely. BTW there is a way to hack your car so you get more mileage its called HHO. Some people managed to get their car to run completely on water. Look it up.

same problem

we use at&t and we use our own internet and free wifi on iPhones. on my iPhone 4s they recently also tried to force a data package I wasn't using at all, an hour or so on the phone with them made no difference and we were hung up by one supervisor 2x.

I switched my sim to my old phone, non smart phone, had them change the phone and turn off the data package, then switched again. I also turned off cellular data in the phone. but i wonder will they eventually see I'm using a smart phone again? can they tell, from calls alone?

this is ridiculous, we pay a lot for calls and texts, I'm not going to pay for a data package I don't use at all.

Will I have to switch to a pay as you go also and is this available only at t mobile?

I'm really sick of this corporate greed, it's disgusting. I paid a lot for an unlocked phone thinking I would be free to do as I wished with regards to internet use.

On the fake iphone gooapple you can just:

Dail “*#112#*”
Select GPRS
Enter new IMEI number

Done...

If only real iphones were that simple...

5 year old thread, nice one:rolleyes:

And stop trying to use stolen or lost phones.

Mod Note
As already mentioned in here, changing the IMEI of a phone is illegal so there's nothing else to discuss and I've locked this thread to stop it being repeatedly dragged up from the dead
