It seems you've tried this, because you said "Glad to confirm it is not fake... I didn't buy from that seller though." How can you confirm this works if you did not buy from this seller? What is the alternative you used? Can you describe it?

Yes. You can run a DP CPU in an SP board (reverse is not true; has to do with QPI links in the chipset used in the DP system, as it's not an X58, but 5520).

But more importantly, it's an expensive way to go about it (assuming you've not found an incredible deal on eBay for example). You'd be cheaper to use the W3690 in an SP board.

that is the cpu i plan in swapping into mine .. even though its 1k .. i would still be under the cost of the 3.33 from apple
