How did you get the sidekick plan on the iPhone?

I second the sidekick data plan for the iPhone. I currently have the iPhone 3G and unlocked it on T-Mo with the $1-a-day unlimited txt/web . Just as mattmccarty said, the voice rates are ridiculously high (.15 a minute ) but, i hardly have to talk on my phone anyway. Honestly, T-Mo has a plan for everyone's individual needs. You can go the prepaid route (easiest, IMO) or contract-locked. You have to evaluate your situation and base your plan options from there. And if you choose to go the prepaid route and want the Sidekick data plan, you can ask me any question you want regarding the former. Good luck :apple:

I went to the t mobile store and asked them if they can change my prepaid account to the sidekick plan and they said no because my IMEI # didn't allow it
Thanks

just do it online

Ok heres my deal.
On tmobile i currently have a sidekick with
  • MyFaves
  • 300 Minutes
  • Unlimited Text/Pic Messaging
  • Unlimited Email and Chat
  • Unlimited Web

Does all that still work if i was to get the iPhone?
and will i be able to use the 3G internet?

also on my bill will i have to pay more because the internet?
or because the gps apps or anything like that?

if i use the iphone 3G to its fullest with all the apps and stuff
will my bill stay the same?

i dont think 3g works, you will have to use edge

As far as the 3G working, no. T-Mo's 3G is not compatible with the iPhone 3G. It uses a different frequency that the iPhone doesn't have. But, you can still get Edge. :)

As for your concerns about your plan and setup working with the iPhone, it will most definitely work. Just jailbreak your iPhone, install ultrasn0w and then pop in your T-Mo sim card and it should start working.

Now, on to your internet concerns, if you say you have unlimited web, then T-Mo shouldn't charge you anything else because you already have that feature on your plan that you pay for anyway. So, no need to worry about that. If you use the iPhone to the fullest, nothing will happen to your bill. You pretty much have unlimited everything and it should cover you for all your internet and txting needs. :D

If they won't allow you to change your account, you can login to your my tmobile account online and change it there, or call customer service and get someone who will do it for you. They shouldn't give you a headache. And, if the first phone representative won't let you, hang up and call again until you get someone who will change it. Or, you can resort to buying another sim card and just get a new number altogether and then get the sidekick data plan that way. Which ever if most convenient for you.

So i can use the 2G to the same potential as the 3G?

what are the differences between the 2G and the 3G?

Yea, pretty much. You won't really be using 3G speeds on the iPhone 3G anyway since T-Mo's network doesn't even support it.

The only really difference at this point (if you're going to be using T-Mo with your iPhone) is the the exterior of the phone and battery life. Because they use the same software and slight variations in hardware, they're identical. However, the 3G version can obviously support faster speeds, but, that isn't an option with T-Mo USA. Also, you can send MMS on the 2G version of the iPhone as well as the 3G version. I would go with the 2G version on T-Mo network because it's a lot cheaper than the 3G model. But, if you already have a iPhone 3G then, it would still work and all you would have to do is obviously jailbreak it and unlock it. :) good luck

So is the 9.99 web2go working fine again?

This morning I tried using safari on my phone and it generated a message from TMobile telling me to call customer service to add the correct data plan for my phone. All I had to do to get the unlimited 9.99 web2go plan to work again was clear out the APN, go back to the home screen and then come back to the APN and input internet2.voicestream.com
So it is working.

For the prepaid sidekick data plan, is it $1 per day OR $1 per day you use it? I'm in WiFi home/work/school but it's those in between times on trains when it would be nice to have.

I'll try that way and see what happens

Hi,
I'm new here and would like some help with the US prepaid plans.
I'll be in NY for about 10 days and have an iPhone 3G jailbroken/unlocked.

Could you suggest what would be the best option for data preferably unlimited and 100 minutes voice at least. From all the threads I've read I understand that T-Mobile would be the best.

Can I just got to T-Mobile outlet and ask for a Sidekick data plan for a few weeks and buy a SIM for $10 ?

Thanks in advance!

yes tmobile is best, but realize there is gonna be like a $40 activation charge or whatever they call it. I would get a tmobile prepaid sim and add the sidekick $1 per day plan. the $40 they charge you might even give you some talk time im not sure.

Maybe I read that wrong, but, as far as I know, T-Mo didn't charge me $40 for me to activate a prepaid sim with the sidekick data plan. I just paid $10 flat for the sim card and i left that same day. I didn't have to worry about any activation fees. I'm not from NY but, in CA I didn't pay $40 for a prepaid activation.

That's too bad, but still ok.

Has anyone actually done this? Tmobile says the only way to get a sidekick data plan is to buy a sidekick kit with a special activation code.
A guy on ebay sells the sim and gives you a old IME number of a sidekick, works perfect.the guys charges 13.00 and you get a free 10days with it...

Thank's for the info.
Are there any other issues I need to take care of like the APN settings?
will t-mobile sell me a SIM and a sidekick $1 pay as you go without a Sidekick phone?

If you have ultrasn0w and the SIM card, then ultrasn0w should take care of the internet settings for you (it did for me).

Yes. They should. You just tell them you want to buy a Prepaid SIM card and that you want to activate it with the sidekick prepaid data plan and they'll do it right there and then for you. Or, you can always get the SIM and activate it online. You can use the $1 a day on any phone. It doesn't necessarily have to be a sidekick.
