Just wondering if anyone else was unfortunate enough to receive an iPad 3G with terribly uneven backlighting. On mine, the light leaks were unbelievable. It was located on the right side of the device, and were most readily visible in a dark room.

I would suggest that everyone check their new iPad, just to make sure.

I have an appointment in about 40 minutes to get it exchanged.

Pictures. And for anyone looking for issues, don't. Try to enjoy your iPad.

Sorry, it's a little too late for pics.

But I think it's a good idea to check for defects, especially before you apply cases, screen protectors and sync your data. I didn't even take the iPad out of the plastic!

For a device, which is composed entirely of screen, to have display defects, kinda ruins the point. Thankfully Apple support is so great.

I purchased another iPad for my dad yesterday, and his display was much better than mine. I'm not expecting perfection, but I want something that is a little less glaring.

Well, I took it to the Apple store, and they told me they wouldn't be able to exchange it until tomorrow. So, they let me take it home and play with it for the night. Of course, I used this opportunity to take some photos.

Even the Genius was shocked with the problem.

Anyone else experiencing this?

And by the way, the Apple store said they would not be able to exchange any iPad 3G's until tomorrow. Just an FYI.

Thanks for the heads up! I just ran into a dark room to check mine for light leaks. Fortunately there did not appear to be any. Also check for dead/stuck pixels and did not find any either. Whew!!!

Hope you get your new one tomorrow and it is perfect!!!

Dang, that's the worst I've ever seen. Good thing you're being taken care of.

Wow that display is pretty crappy!! I guess this is what happens when these display manufacturers are worrying about quantity over quality to meet a deadline. Apple should fire immediately the company that produced that display!

Ouch! Mine didn't have that problem fortunately. Hopefully your replacement fares better.

Thanks, guys!

I'm glad to hear that you don't have this problem. It killed the moment for me.

I'm just glad apple support has been so great. I'm able to try out my iPad tonight (which would have been torture otherwise!) and swap it for a brand new one tomorrow.

What size is this one?

Both 16GB wifi iPads I had suffered from the same crappy screen. I was hoping the 32GB 3G would be better.

I won't stop until I get one that doesn't have this issue. Watching movies is the absolute worst when the light's leaking like that.

Anyone that says just be happy with it can stuff it. Seriously.

It's Shirley Jackson's The Lottery!!

So far I haven't drawn any short straws. :)

This one is a 64GB.

Did you get your 32GB 3G yet? Have any screen problems with it?

What was the reasoning for waiting until tomorrow?

That's when they're going to have the replacements in stock. Apparently, they're not able to exchange mine with another retail unit. Just the "white box" replacements at this point.

Just fired up my 3G, and the screen is WAYYYYYYYY yellow compared to the wifi only. I will try to post some pics. Overall color of NYT app looks like yellow newspaper, and the worst yellowing is around the edges on all apps.

I didn't think it was gonna be that bad when you first posted. I'm thankful I didn't have that problem.

Unfortunately I suffer the same problem. In the interest of science can one who does not have this issue increase brightness to full, get a black screen on theirs with low lighting and take a photo of how the screen is supposed to look?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help out....

I have not, and I'm seriously considering not getting one now. These problems seem to be more and more common the more that are sold, which makes me feel like I'm likely to end up with another one like this myself.

I'm sick of trying to explain things to the Geniuses... it's always hit and miss with those people. Either you get someone who is sympathetic to your complaints, or you get someone that says "I don't see anything wrong" or "it's within specs".

Too stressful to deal with. It's a frickin lottery whether or not you get one that's actually worth the price tag.

I have the uneven lighting. It's bad, but not as bad as the photo the OP posted. I have an appointment for tomorrow to exchange it. Not to sure I want to considering I already put on a screen shield and a wrapsol skin on the back. Ugh, what to do.

Over react much?

I took a photo of mine and this is what I am experiencing. I guess I'm going to exchange it after all. Plus I found 3 dead pixels.

Yeah, it's going to go back. It sucks because I spent nearly $60 on this screen shield and skin. Now it's money down the drain. I hope apple can offer me something in replacement it. I can't afford to throw out this kind of money and bad iPads.
