I was surprised about this too. And as other people have said it doesn't come with any cleaning cloth like Macs, and iPhones.

It is not an iPod. How much the iPad costs is irrelevant.

Man, Ferrari are cheapskates. I paid like a million bucks for my ride and they didn't give me a free toaster.

The iPad is not specifically marketed as a portable entertainment device. Does your mac have earphones included in the box?

I think for a lot of people another set of cheap earphones would just go in the box with the rest of the cheap earphones the get.

But at least you now have a choice on what sort you'd like rather than just using the ones that came in the box. In fact I tend to keep the one in the box rather than use them to keep them nice.

Not marketed as a portable entertainment device? Have you seen the iPad commercials lately?

To the OP: I agree, the iPad needed some headphones and a cleaning cloth. The older iPods even came with a case.

You're comparing an iPad to a Ferrari. lol One is a portable electronic device marketed to the masses and the other is an ultra-luxury sports car marketed to a wealthy few. Surely, you don't think your iPad is a elite luxury device do you? It's gonna be sold in Walmart in a few months you know.

Wow, you're just now figuring out that the iPad didn't come with headphones? FYI, it doesn't have a cleaning cloth either.

For the record, since the addition of an oleophobic coating to displays, cleaning cloths are not included. Macs, yes. iPhones and ipads, no.

Yeah, I just watched the new ad. They show email, maps, a pie graph, the elements app, a piano teaching app, books, magazines, the web, video, photos, books, and already a revolution.

Only one of those requires earphones. There is no mention of music.

It might be marketed as some sort of portable entertainment device, but not one where earphones are a requisite for use.

If you'd paid a million bucks for a Ferrari you probably would not know what to do with a toaster.... :D

It's amazing how Apple always knows what their customers should get with a product, they are always right on.

Man, Ferrari are cheapskates. I paid like a million bucks for my ride and they didn't give me a free toaster.

Better yet, the apple in-ears are pieces of **** and most people buy their own suitable headphones/earphones.

700+ bucks for the thing and they can't provide some headphones with it? That's cheap Apple, really cheap....

Cheers,

Ahmed

no, the standard Apple Headphones are really cheap, and I'm glad I don't have to collect another pair.

and just to add, my MacBook is also a portable device that contains media, and I didn't get a pair of headphones either, and my MacBook was $1300.

Are we done belittling OP for no real reason or is he gone with no intention of ever returning?

They give you a set of leather Ferrari luggage :D

I can agree with that but would have wanted to see at least a black cleaning cloth like they include with the iPhone.. But hey that's Apple, they seem to save more and more every year..

So I just received my 3G iPad. Love the little bugger but I am a bit miffed that Apple doesn't even throw in a pair of headphones. I mean come on. The device is supposed to be all about portable entertainment and the likes. 700+ bucks for the thing and they can't provide some headphones with it? That's cheap Apple, really cheap....

You're cheap for complaining about this.

Before the official announcement most people were thinking the price for iPad would be close to 1000.00, I think in order to keep the price points lower Apple decided to cut back on things like headphones, cleaning cloths, etc.
It may not cost them a lot for these items but when you multiply it over millions, it adds up.

To be fair most people also thought it would have a better processor, more ram and run a full-sized OS. I think the price point is about what would have been expected knowing the full specs.

All that said, are we really whining about not including a pair of $0.99 headphones? If you want to whine about something, try skimping on the ram or at least a legit gripe.

ash =o)

What percent of iPad buyers already had iPhones/Pods?

My guess is that combined with trying to reach the price they wanted, the fact that 50% already have the exact headphones is why they weren't included.

The cloth I could see an argument for. I carry around the one from my iPhone 3G.

I used an extreme analogy intentionally to demonstrate that how much he pays for a product doesn't entitle him to "minor freebies". Seems the point I was trying to make flew over the heads of not-so-few posters in the thread.

Just like someone else posted, did you get free phones with your MacBook or iMac? I mean you paid like OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS!

To the OP: Dude, if it is seriously irritating you give me your email and I will paypal you the 30$ or how much that thing costs so I could put your mind at ease.

I would just like an iPad sized microfiber cleaning cloth with a little Apple logo on it, to be honest.

Oh well! I will use the one that came with my 4GB iPhone back in 2007...

I have bought 7 or 8 iPods over the years for myself, the wife and the kids. After trying the included headphones with the original iPod, it pretty much cured me of ever wanting to use those again and I've always picked up something better. I'd just as soon they not charge me for something I'd never use (though those things couldn't possible cost much to make). Now a cleaning cloth is something that would be nice to have been included.

So true.

to the OP I have a few unused original Apple earbuds lying around the house I can send you one to make up for apples cheapness lol :p

I imagine this has been said already, but Apple also didn't give me headphones with my Macbook Pro. What bastards. [/sarcasm]
