700+ bucks for the thing and they can't provide some headphones with it? That's cheap Apple, really cheap....

Cheers,

Ahmed

You have it backwards. You are the one being cheap. Like you said $700 device and you want to use crappy $5 throw-in headphones with it. If you can afford a $700 iPad you can afford some higher quality earbuds too.

Go over to Amazon or whatever you fav eStore is and pick up some low end Etymotics or Shures. For a mere $60-70 your ears will love you & you will wonder why the hell you were bitching about the lack of included junky earbuds. Obviously the more you spend the better sound you get but these are good for starters.

The iPad is not specifically marketed as a portable entertainment device. Does your mac have earphones included in the box?

I think for a lot of people another set of cheap earphones would just go in the box with the rest of the cheap earphones the get.

Um, yes actually. My MacBook Pro came with the ubiquitous Apple white ear buds which I left in the box for emergencies should my Shure E4C's ever break. If Apple can lower the price by $20 by not including a mediocre set of ear buds then I say do it. Those who want cheap earphones can buy them. Those who want something better can likewise buy what suits them.

My MB Pro didn't come with headphones. Neither did my mother's Dell. I just bought a refrigerator and the POS came with headphones, though.

If you'd paid a million bucks for a Ferrari you probably would not know what to do with a toaster.... :D

It's amazing how Apple always knows what their customers should get with a product, they are always right on.

Then they should have known that a cheap micro-fiber cloth was needed for their smudge resistant screen...

I was a bit put off by their absence, but when I thought about it I realized I would rarely use this to listen to music on the go. This serves completely different purposes than the simple music playability of my iPod.

My tune changed a little when my buds fell out and into my back tire. A back-up pair would have been handy right about then. :p

Who's the real cheapskate? C'mon!

Hey, just go to the 99 cents store. They sell earphones too. :D

I never used the stock earphones so I could care less but a nice suede and thin sleeve would be fantastic. Seems like you would need to get one from them instead.
Can they get sued for their BS!!! so called Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating?

I am a bit miffed that Apple doesn't even throw in a pair of headphones..... Ahmed
They had to get the base price under $500. Earbuds were the first thing to go. The battery and screen were pricey though. They make back their profit margins on all the things other tablets come with. You want a USB port? That'll be $29 and they throw in an SD card reader. Stand? Another $29, or spend $69 and they throw in a keyboard. Earbuds? Another $29, or as much as $480 from their accessories store. They would gladly sell you a $29 cleaning cloth too, but that would be just too greedy even for them given a 50 count pack can be had for $55.

So I just received my 3G iPad. Love the little bugger but I am a bit miffed that Apple doesn't even throw in a pair of headphones. I mean come on. The device is supposed to be all about portable entertainment and the likes. 700+ bucks for the thing and they can't provide some headphones with it? That's cheap Apple, really cheap....

Cheers,

Ahmed

Bundling headphones with the iPad is a bit superfluous IMHO. The average "Apple Consumer" probably has a surplus of Apple OEM Headphones.

And after having my iPad for a while, I found that I rarely use it to watch movies or listen to music.

Apple's MO is to include less and less with each revision of a product. It's one way they keep their margins up. You can bet iPads will not come with wall power adapters in a revision or two. There's noting else to take away. :D
