So I was ready to preorder right when they announced the IPad Mini 6 , I was actually surprised they announced it , I was expecting Oct like the rumours.

I held off ordering right away as I was so stumped on which size to choose as the price different is pretty hefty 64GB/Wifi $733CAD vs 256GB/Wifi $959CAD

I was thinking about just getting the 256GB and calling it a day with future proofing, but then started thinking why ? My iPhone 12 Mini is 256GB and my main culprits for only having 72GB free is my photos/msg/whatsapp/music.

I won’t be storing my photos on my iPad , and if I can I’d like to optimize my imsg/WhatsApp if possible on the iPad vs keeping it reg on my iPhone. And music I can stream.

my main usage will be media consumption via streaming , web browsing and maybe get into drawing if I decide to buy the Apple Pencil , and maybe saving some movies or so here and there not a whole library for travel.

think I should just stick with the 64GB ? Or ? Lol

can’t decide but slightly leaning towards the 64GB , wish they offering 128Gb as base option.

what are your guys usage for 256gb ?

This has been discussed over and over in the last couple days tbh. Some have large apps, some love to store media locally, others both etc. There is no wrong or right here.

I recommend you try the 64 GB model and return it in the return period in case you need more storage.

I ordered the 256GB, but that's because I want to dabble with Luma Fusion and perhaps other creative apps. I'll also likely load it up with other offline things. For your usage 64GB seems very much fine. If I had your needs I wouldn't be able to motivate 256GB since it crazy more expensive. I've been waiting for this tablet for many years so I don't want to feel that I can't use it 100% with future apps that might interest me.

Yes, 128GB would have been the dream, but reality is what reality is. 😑

I’ve changed my mind about this and ordered the 64Gb. It won’t be my main iPad (I have a 256Gb Pro) and will only be using for media consumption and web browsing.

I’ve never had less than 256Gb before. Is it just a case of turning off automatic uploads for photos etc to save space?

In your case I’d set the mini up from scratch and not from an existing backup and then turn on optimise storage in the photo settings to not retain full res photos locally.

I’d get the 256 if you can afford it. 64 seems too low.

My decision is should I get WiFi or cellular?

1) GPS: if you need it, cell is the only option

2) location: Europe has way better cell plans. If USA you will pay through the nose to worry about data consumption

3) do you commute by train to need it most days?

4) do you mind tethering from a phone?

5) how likely is it (or the person using it) to be lost/stolen such that you need location always

My personal rule of thumb is: buy about twice the amount of storage you need, so you don't need to think about storage. Unfortunately, that puts me more or less in the same place as you - my current usage on the Mini 5 is about 50GB, so 128GB would be ideal. However, a large portion of that is downloaded podcasts (~15GB), so I feel you might be ok with the 64GB. If you can spare the money, though, I would go with 256GB (just to be on the safe side).

1) Don't need it.

2) I'm in the UK and could buy a 20GB loaded sim for around £40.

3) No. Working from home.

4) No, I have unlimited data on my iPhone.

5) Not very likely as hardly travel nowadays.

So the answer for me is I don't need the cellular version. Now, although I've decided on the 64GB I still wonder?.....256?.....(3rd world problems huh?)

I am moving down to 64GB but getting cellular. I only used about 35GB on my other iPad I'm trading in. I will really love using this to read the NYTimes on the train.

I want to reclaim using an iPad for fun. Strictly reading for pleasure, the occasional game, streaming movies. No more work crap - no more emails or Slack on my iPad!

It gets here tomorrow and I can't wait.

For the past five years or so, other than AirPods, I have absolutely thrived on purchasing amazing condition preowned Apple products for usually less than half of MSRP.

The products are all so good that they are still amazing even when many years old
Agreed. I’m besties with Apple’s Refurbished page.

For instance, I didn’t want more black bezels so I traded in my two-year-old silver mini 5 with 64gb for one with 256. So I got a new battery, more storage, and still my white bezels for less than $200.

Maybe think about each minute you stress over this decision as costing a dollar (or your currency or choice), if you can, pay for the extra storage and peace of mind.

Ha, I did. Ended up with the 256GB Cellular. So much for logical reasoning!
