Agreed. I’m besties with Apple’s Refurbished page.

For instance, I didn’t want more black bezels so I traded in my two-year-old silver mini 5 with 64gb for one with 256. So I got a new battery, more storage, and still my white bezels for less than $200.
I hear that a lot, but I can never find refurbs on Apple's site for LESS than I can buy them new from places like Best Buy or Amazon.

Interesting. That’s not been my experience, but also I “trust” Apple more. One time I ordered a “new” iPad from Amazon, and it had a chip in its casing. Around the same time, I’d ordered an old SE as a spare and it had some funky little sticker over the headphones hole. Both those things happened in the space of a couple weeks, and I’ve not bought anything Apple off Amazon since. But other people do seem to have good experiences there.

Plus I already buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, and when it comes to Apple stuff, for some reason, I would rather give the money directly to Apple. Like somehow I’m paying the creator rather than the middleman. Symbolically.

….and jic someone is scamming, haven’t seen it happen on Apple yet.

Ha, I did. Ended up with the 256GB Cellular. So much for logical reasoning!
Hahahah! Well done!

Think of it this way:

You can breathe more easily with more storage, rather than chastising yourself for needing more.

You paid a bit more for cellular now, but you don’t have to activate it or can cancel the monthly data any time you want. You never have to go darn I wish I had given myself the option.

Essentially, you just paid for options and unforseesble growth. That seems a good investment in life. Enjoy!

Hi
I have the same problem mini 1 16gb cellular 1.7gb left
Mini 4 128gb WiFi 107gb left
Thinking will mini 6 64gb cellular be enough 256gb cellular too much money
I could get the 64 cellular and the pencil
For about the same in the UK
Neil
64GB should be plenty. The OS is bigger these days so 16GB wouldn't be enough and I'd be worried about 32 but on 21GB used, 64 is fine.

I'm on 40GB used but it's fine - I know that 15GB is content that I haven't got around to watching or listening to yet.

128GB would’ve been perfect but of course they force you to get 256GB because of the massive gap between the two storage options!

Yep - if the options were 64, 128, 256 I might have been tempted to go for it since I don’t intend to upgrade 3 cycles in a row. 256 is just too much money for far too much storage on top of a £100 increase for the 64 + cellular.

Maybe you’ll start a class action for being forced too since the first one is such a likely success!

I started with a iPad mini 6 64GB cellular, but after a week, I realized that this mini is going to become my regular go-to iPad for on the go outside and for comfortable in-bed-reading. At 256GB, this iPad has more space than my 2018 iPad Pro 3rd Gen. That iPad had 64GB and it was an annoyance for the past 3 years. I abhor seeing apps with the little cloud logo next to them and having to re-download them if I haven’t used it in a short while.

The window of time of returning the 64GB mini 6 was small, so I hunted for a 256GB mini 6 for pickup at my local store until finally…I secured it. My precious. Unfortunately it wasn’t the color I originally wanted, which was Starlight, but it was a spaceful Space Gray… I decided space was more important than color. Plus, darker tablets are more down low/understated when outside and via color doesn’t scream “I’m using an iPad” in public.

Not the Air 4 - that's 4G compared to a 5G Mini. Refurbs shouldn't be long now. If you wanted WiFi the premium might be worth it for the larger screen, but paying more than the Mini for the same Cellular as the base? Nope.

The 9th Gen looks like a much better deal this year now that it has caught the mid tier up as regards to storage, if I had to buy now and I wanted a bigger screen it would be my choice. If you're not sold on the Mini though, it might be worth waiting to see what the Air 5 brings (hopefully less than 6 months away.) I like the newer form factor.

Hi
Something to think about I do like the mini
For the size but the 9th generation would
Be nice if I wanted a bigger screen
But then I could use my 13” MBP in the house

Among those, the 9th gen 256GB cellular would be my choice. I find the mini too small to be my "main" iPad while 64GB is too cramped.

Admittedly, I did buy an Air 4 256GB LTE earlier this year for $749 (basically because I was super tempted by the Sky Blue color and I was going to give my mom my old Air 3 256GB LTE).

I’d get the 256 if you can afford it. 64 seems too low.

My decision is should I get WiFi or cellular?
I'm pretty set on the cellular primarily because it also has GPS. When you use your phone as a hotspot, the maps location is wildly off at times. I wish they would let you share the GPS from your phone, but of course I wouldn't be spending extra Apple $$ then would I? ;)

Also, not a fan of BB’s restocking fee.
I've never had to pay a restocking fee at Best Buy. Sounds like a "Tale of Two Best Buys". :) Given your first-hand experiences I can understand the conclusions you have arrived at...if I experienced those things, I'd feel the same way.

I won't get into those times when Best Buy has offered higher trade-in values than Apple. (though they recently started engaging in some shady practices with their trade-in policies) :D

Initially got the 64gb model and was mostly content with the capacity. However, I kept my eye open for a 256gb in my local area. Finally found one about 40 miles away with just a couple days remaining on the return period for the 64gb. I listen to a lot of music and prefer having my library downloaded for those times I don’t have access to Wi-Fi. So, back went the 64gb and I’m happily rocking the 256gb.

It’s a crime they are offering 64 for this iPad. I thought it’d be plenty since I’m using it as a second iPad for streaming and consumption with a dash of digital drawing. But my Files app is taking up 21 gigs, and the iOS is taking up 14. It’s really annoying having to keep an eye on space.
