Chrome Canary blows Safari out the water

If you haven't tried using Google Chrome Canary 64bit on Yosemite, you need to try it. I thought Safari was faster, but when I downloaded this beast- I was wrong. :eek:
I have no issues with speed on Canary, maybe because its 64bit now... Safari is not.

Let me know your experiences with Canary if you've tried it. If you want speed, definitely check it out for yourself! :D
 
Don't forget to use uBlock (or HTTP Switchboard for the more OCD) if you aren't doing so already.
 
I just really dislike Chrome's interface. It just doesn't feel truly OS X-like and it lacks a lot of nice animations.

I agree.

Safari is *improved* a lot since Mavericks, but still just isn't as fast as Chrome.

I'm the exact opposite. Who cares about animations. All they do is slow down productivity. I like that I can turn all of those off and just have things be instant instead of watching some lame zoom in animation.

I care a lot about animations when they allow me to see what previous page is behind the current page. When using the back/forward gesture in Chrome you'll just see a "lame" arrow. Nor does it give me a thumbnail overview of all the tabs I have open when pinching. Which is especially convenient with many tabs.

Safari has been 64 bit for quite a while now, just an FYI.
 
Safari is more efficient when it comes to CPU & RAM usage, I'll stick to that.

Safari has some nice tricks no other browser does, namely the Reader, and second little known, if you show Finder Info on a file downloaded with Safari, they include the FTP or HTTP location that it came from.
 
I also prefer the iCloud functionality syncing bookmarks etc across my macs and iOS devises.
This is worth a bit of speed loss.

It's a cross-platform browser meant to be minimalistic for performance. IMO, it kind of doesn't really look like a native app on any OS.

OP is right Chrome is a little faster though. You won't notice it just loading a page of text but loading a forum where all the posts are embedded videos or something like that, Chrome is significantly quicker.

Aesthetics are very important to me so therefore
I cannot like Chrome.
 
I don't really see where the 'blowing out of the water' comes from. The JavaScript performance is very similar (Safari needs to work on its string implementation), Safari is however much faster at loading and rendering websites. I used Chrome exclusively when it came out, as it was indeed much better than constantly crashing, horribly underperforming Safari. But since Mavericks, Safari has improved considerably. In Yosemite, its performance is almost unbelievable.
 
Chrome may win in terms of raw page rendering, but all browsers are so close that it really doesn't make a huge difference.

The biggest thing that keeps me from Chrome (aside from iCloud integration) is that Chrome lags while scrolling and when playing video if I swipe between spaces I get bad lag. I don't have this with Safari.

There is a quick and easy speed test. Run both browsers and get your numbers.

I did, not much difference. The biggest thing I noticed is my desktop consistently produced better numbers than my laptop, faster hardware matters too.
 
Adblock sucks on Safari, that's honestly the only reason I don't use it mostly. I would like to because the integration with my iPhone.

The API limits it, so it can't block preroll ads on Twitch.tv, for example. ABP does a lot more on Chrome.

It's unfortunate.

You say Safari is not 64bit, 7.0.6 surely is on my Mavericks installation.
It's hard to believe Apple would take such a backwords step on Yosemite.

Do not use Adblock for anything. It's trash. Use Adguard instead.
