Nobody has suggested using Opera as a replacement and I am using it with Mojave and it works well.

10.14.6 is the last 32-bit supporting version of macOS. That's a shame. I've maintained it for backwards compatibility with high-end 32-bit apps like PhotoShop CS3, iZotope RX and others. I guess it's time to switch full time to Firefox on that Mac. Apple claims to be "Green" but forcing the retirement of older computers (via lack of security updates and eventual dropped software) is anything but. My 2012 Mac works perfectly fine with a 2TB SSD and 16GB of ram added. I've been waiting for an M3 to buy a new one, but still planned to use the old one for hosting the whole house movie server and older apps.
Apple tends to drop hardware OS support around the same time that Intel drops support for their CPUs (the ones in said Macs). Even if Apple did still support the machine in newer OSs, your 2012 chip would still be vulnerable to insecurities that Intel no longer patches (Ivy Bridge CPUs, used in 2012 Macs, were dropped by Intel in 2020). For example, Intel dropped support for 6th generation Core (Skylake) chips in 2022. Those chips were used in the 2016 lineup of Macs that lost support for the latest version of macOS in 2022 as well with the release of Ventura. Apple is certainly playing their part in getting people to buy new machines, but they're not alone in dictating this. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Apple Silicon support in a few years.

Any site with webp images won't show them. You will see a blank space.

That is the problem with Safari pre-Big Sur. Even the same version of Safari compatible with Catalina, will shows webp images on Big Sur but not in Catalina (and pre catalina)
