Both Chrome and Spotify are very good at supporting every platform under the sun, I would expect Apple Silicon versions very soon. It is day one of the release of a totally new platform.
This is true. For now I will import all of my Chrome settings into Safari and carry on but a shame Rossetta 2 isn't as foolproof as I would hope it to be.

To answer questions. Running 11.0.1. Chrome is personal preference due to the cross syncing across other platforms I use. And Rosetta 2 should just work. It’s a virtualisation engine. No need for app designers to certify it to work. If it doesn’t work as intended that’s on the virtualiser not the app vendor.

And Chrome nor Spotify appear in the iPhone/iPad search results section of the App Store.
BTW you are the only person claiminh Chrome crashes, none of the reviews mentioned anything about it. Make sure it’s not some configuration on your end before jumping to conclusions.

Very very true. I haven’t seen any other mention of Chrome causing issues either. And check that it’s not a Chrome extension that’s the culprit.

It's not a claim it is a fact. As an Apple owner since 1994 and an IT infrastructure engineer for a global firm I think I know my left from my right hand. But thank you for your accusatory input.

Apple fans are so sensitive.

From what I've read, the Chrome beta channel works better on the M1, and other apps based on Chrome will have issues until Chrome works better on M1 on the stable channel. So apps like Slack will probably suck on the battery.

There is no way neither Spotify nor Google didn't receive a M1 mini dev kit over the summer. These are two of the biggest apps around. They likely just didn't prioritize it.

I think the availability of the new M1 Macs and now the earlier-than-expected deliveries weren't planned by 3rd party app devs. Especially Google. I bet in a week or two a LARGE number of apps will come out supporting the new M1 chip.

Appeal to authority!
As a systems engineer for 20 years I can say that you don’t. The reason is there is no virtualizer at play here.
A low post account that starts of with a complaint that no one else has is always dubious.

You should go read JoAnna Stern’s WSJ review where she was running 100 open Crome tabs with out issue. Or your choice of the verge reviews. Or ...
No one else is having any problems with Crome. It’s you. As a IT Professional, you should know that if only one user is having problems then the problem is that user.
Like the poster above me, I’m a system engineer with over 25 years experience.
And I am not sensitive at all about what works and what does not.

I actually mentioned this earlier in the thread.

I've had Chrome running for the past 5 hours and not had one crash. General web browsing, playing two Twitch streams at once, running things with Flash Player etc. 1Password X, uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger & RES are the only extensions I have installed.

I'm running basic Google Chrome downloaded as soon as I booted up. Is it occasionally a little bit slow on first loading a website? Yep. Fine after that.

This is disappointing. Was going to order mine after seeing all of the reviews. I use chrome all the time too. I thought Rosetta 2 was touted as, it just works with whatever as well.

Perhaps this is caused by a particular extension the original poster is using? In these reviews people are opening 50-100 Chrome tabs and it's running fine.

Maybe try it with extensions disabled.

I'd say that is logical - also, Google just updated Chrome to be 100% compatible.

it’s a fact for your particular case, not necessarily everyone’s!

BTW Rosetta 2 is a code translation tool with some JIT emulation capability; it’s not a virtualization engine (hypervisor). It is translating x86 code to ARM on installation.

Not true. Also mentioned here: https://doesitarm.com/app/chrome/

Edit:
There are also several reports on Twitter that Chrome crashes on M1:

Also nothing to do with Rosetta like the OP speculated. It was crashing due to a chrome bug that affected people that installed today with a workaround to allow Chrome Bluetooth access.
