Why not just get an Air or something?

Because Google lovers don't want to go to the dark side by getting MBA. They would rather have Google make everything and buy from Apple store...oops I meant physical Google store.

nice Retina Macbook.

that being said, too expensive. The 13inch rMBP can be had for less than this online for refurbs.

LOL, well thats a fine justification for it being cheaper.

That said, I like the idea of it. So the difference in that and an actual laptop is basically that Chromebook runs like a tablet? I do think it is overpriced, ....by alot really. Id have no interest at those prices.
But if you think about it and im speaking for myself, i am always using a browser. I hardly do any offline stuff on my computers.

Sure, that wouod make sense if you could get this device for cheap or had other benfits. But why would you pay $1300 for a browser that gets 5 hrs battery?

I wouldnt and wont. When i first saw the title i was thnking it might be $500-$700. $1300 is a laugher. They arent going to compete with the already overpriced MBP that way.

If this thing costs $1300 it makes me wonder about their ultimate price point on Google Glass. I know the Glass' current price is being quoted by many self-identified experts here as the prototype price but I am thinking it won't probably drop to the $500-600 range as some claim.

Or maybe this is just a ploy to get people to think "I can buy this, or 2 Nexus 10s with nice screens" Makes the Nexus 10 seem even more inexpensive.

I will stick with my Nexus 7 :)

I think most of us are doubting the OS. It has advanced so much since the early days. And this is the perfect machine because it doesn't have low end specs, and it's pretty future proof. I could see it getting updates even five years from now.

The apps are pretty good too. Thinking in terms of Android vs Chrome, Chrome definitely has more going for it. Easily about 50 applications I can think of from the top of my head that I would instantly install.

The only real issue is the battery.

The preorder price for the Glass was quoted at $1500. Give there's nothing else on the market that does what it does and how hi-tech it is, it's fairly reasonable even though it's expensive.

This thing is a joke though.

I also think media coverage on this product is funny. When the Surface Pro came out that thing was ripped on everything from battery to price to ecosystem even though it's useful as hell. Meanwhile this laptop is utterly useless except for being able to run a few web apps. Same battery life as the Pro, more expensive, pretty much zero ecosystem since it won't run anything standalone. And no site other than Gizmodo has bothered to point out how fundamentally stupid of a product it is.

I'm glad to see that Google is getting a taste for building their own high-end products, but this thing has no niche. A person who spends $1300 for a laptop isn't going to want a web browser in return. Chromebooks are only logical if they are cheap and low-power.

At this price it makes more sense to buy a 13 retina and put linux on that, the only benefit this has over the pro is the touch screen and thats apparently not even good.

How well is the retina mac book hardware supported in the Linux kernel? Can it currently take advantage of all the hardware at all (including that gorgeous screen)?

A dual boot OSX/Linux solution on a rMBP sounds astounding I must admit. :cool:I

Google is going to help Apple sell a lot more iPads.

Let me see.

Option A: Chromebook Pixel for $1299
Option B: iPad with bluetooth keyboard for $599

I think April came a little bit early for Google this year.

Why miss option C?

Nexus 7 16GB: $199
Samsung Chromebook: $249
100GB Google Drive storage (worth $119.76): $0.

$448 total.

Leaves plenty of $$$'s left if you wanted to get a decent 32GB SD card for Linux use on the Chromebook and a Bluetooth keyboard too.:D

Right, because there are no OTHER choices than those:rolleyes:

Neither of those have retina screens.

The main selling point of the Chromebook pixel is the high resolution screen. Without the high resolution screen, I guess it would be similar to the $249 Samsung Chromebook.
