Seriously, a 13 inch Retina MBP will cost $1499
(Chromebook Pixel is $1299)

13" Retina Macbook Pro specs

-intel i5 dual core clocked at 2.5 ghz
-128 gb SSD
-8 gb of DDR3 ram
-7-8 hours of battery life
- fully fledged OS with a App Stote

Chromebook pixel specs
-intel core i5 clocked at 1.8 ghz
-4 gb of DDR3 ram
-32 gb SSD
- 5 hours battery life

The Chromebook Pixel is such a terrible buy in my book, really it is pretty terrible, how can anyone disagree with this? You get so much more from a retina MBP

From a real hardware perspective, the Pixel is defitnetly nice on the outside no doubting that, but the internals are really weak, i mean i understand its a "cloud" computer, but its still weak regardless

My theory is that google wanted its developers not to use MacBooks in the campus, so they made a cloud OS based chrome book with the same great industrial design.

If I were to buy it? Nah. All google services work fine on an ultra book for cheaper.

Linus Torvalds?

Linux founder Linus Torvalds recently picked up a Google Chromebook Pixel, and the hardware left such a positive impression that he posed the question “Why do PC manufacturers even bother any more?” on his Google Plus page.

I'd go for one to use dual booting Linux and Chrome OS on.
Cheaper hardware and a fully fledged OS with an app store (I already do this on my Chromebook 5 550). Then again, there's nothing to stop me doing the same on thebRMBP though either.

Both would fit the niche perfectly!

Chrome OS is just so not worth it at this time. Maybe I could see value in it if we installed OS X or Windows on it. Should be possible. Even then the storage is so paltry. It is priced way too high.

I personally wouldn't justify over $150 bucks on a Chrome OS based computer. Hell, I take that back... I cannot see one desire or need for a Chromebook. I'm getting a Samsung one only because it is free due to my company ordering 5 so we could be aware of the capabilities in case they show up on our network in the hands of Managers, Directors and Executives.

Im not doubting that the Chromebook itself is beautifully made, top notch industry quality and fantastic build quality. But its hardware is really weak for the price, and I dont know how i feel about having a full OS "in the cloud"

Not to mentiom its measle 100/Mb a month of LTE, which is utter trash. It just doesnt make much sense

It might not be worth it to you, but this is the only Chromebook worth buying at the moment. It has the specs that will last for the next ten years for internet usage alone. Get the $199 Acer, and you'll throw it out next year.

Its junk compared to Apple Laptops, its a high price for something that is not full featured like MBPs or Airs.

Whatever the heck ChromeOS team is smoking. Pointless OS with good hardware and bad price point just doesn't sell in 2013.

They really need to work with Ubuntu or some other Linux distro to bring an awesome Linux distro that just works on hardware as nice as the Pixel but priced more attractively. Yeah they can still bundle Chrome with it. That I bet might sell with the geeks at least.

I just think their isn't a big market for an OS that is just about useless when not connected to the cloud. Their mobile OS android is much more useful and powerful.

Earlier this week I got a chance to get an extended visit with the Pixel after our office brought them in for us to play with. I have to say it looks really nice, and is very well built. That being said, we already have chromebooks with an i5 and 4gb of ram, so the only difference for me is a higher-res display and a touchscreen. I don't particularly value the touchscreen as much as I would on a more mobile device (tablet or smartphone), so I don't really see much difference over my current chromebook (since they are spec'ed the same anyway).

yet the iPad mini sold tons...lol! (joke) They had to start somewhere, the OS will mature like all OS's do; the hardware for the volumes was probably expensive to make, so they couldn't cut the price too much without taking a bath.

Again, it has to start somewhere and improve from there, it is a huge leap so far and not a stretch to throw in a larger SSD and better processor down the road; plus Google offers a metric load of online storge which is really the point of this machine, it is designed to be basically an always connected device with a small amount of local storage for short term off line use.

Not to mention one needs Linux, windows, or Mac to even develop apps for android, wp8, ios, bb, etc etc. Not to mention all the other software in art, entertainment, engineering, medical, business needs a desktop OS to be developed.

This is not just a bad deal compared to a MBP, its a bad deal compared to any windows laptop on sale today. Saying u can dual boot Linux adds nothing. You can dual boot a $500 Acer and that will come with enough storage to actually hold the contents of the average digital cameras sd card

I recently got a Retina Macbook Pro 13". After seeing the Chromebook Pixel, I have no regrets.

What's more interesting to me, however, is that Google is really into building premium looking/feeling devices. Good signs to come, perhaps, in their future lineups.

It's a bizarre product for the price. I can't see any reason why you would choose it over a Surface Pro or Retina MacBook Pro. I think Google needs to go back to the drawing board with Chrome OS and see what purpose they want it to serve.

People have tried to make that argument for years towards Mac users and the response normally is its the experience they're buying into.

no matter what anyone says, the $250 chromebook is great for people who just want to surf the web, but want the laptop feel. I agree about the pixel though. I see no use in paying for those specs to use a web based OS.

The point is the Chromebook pixel is extremely overpriced with what they are giving you, the Pixel should cost 900 with those specs....yes im sure alot of people know Apple products are a little overpriced, but you get fantastic hardware and software and you defitnetly payed for what you get

The weakest thing about it is the OS. Chrome OS is not Windows, it's not Mac OSX, it's not Linux. You can't install your favorite apps onto it. You really are limited to the web and Google's web services.
