At least the download does appear to be fixed. I'm able to download it now, too. Whether it will actually work will have to wait until the download finishes.

That said, the PC version works just fine in Crossover Games through Steam. So consider that an alternative if the Mac version refuses to work.

I'd like to hear your comparison of Steam Mac native versus Steam on Crossover.

I'm miserable working on Steam native. Bought Civ IV Complete Edition on the first day of launch. Downloaded fine, then I had real problems with vanilla and Warlords crashing, but Sword worked. Now I can't even launch any of them.

FFFUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!

It's very frustrating. I had high hopes. Now I am paying to be a beta tester.

Cheat codes - Civ 4 on Steam

Quick question... I am wondering if it's possible to use the cheat codes with the steam version of Civ 4 & its various add on packs?

Anyone know if this is possible?

Steam on Crossover is a bit slower than the native Mac Steam. And you have to start up Crossover Games before you can run Steam. However, it isn't unusably slow. It's just obvious it isn't a native application. It just takes a little longer to launch and show the News screens. Codeweavers just released Crossover Games 9.0 that supports the new Windows Steam client, too. They had a beta version of Crossover the day of or the day after the client update, so they're pretty on top of things. I think the new client works better in Crossover than the old client did.

As for the games, Civ IV has worked just fine in Crossover Games for me. I have both of the expansions, and I've installed some fan made mods that have all worked as well. I also have Rome: Total War running in Crossover. Torchlight worked fine, too, though it is no longer necessary to use Crossover for it. Supposedly all the Valve games work, but I never owned them to try them. I did get Portal now that it is free, but I have not yet downloaded and tried it.

Just a heads up...

If you own all the Civ games on Steam, you really only need to install Beyond the Sword. The only thing the previous Civ's will give you are the scenarios so if you don't play those you're just wasting a fair amount of hard drive space.

You do need to own Civ IV on Steam though to play Beyond the Sword. You just don't need it installed.

I tried to install and play just CIV 4: BTS, but the steam page and the app refused to play ball until I installed CIV 4.

Notice: Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword requires the Steam version of Sid Meier's Civilization IV to play.

I can now report that Civ IV now runs from Steam. I seem to have two entries in Steam for it. Only one shows installed, and it works. I tried all three versions and all worked.

Thanks for the tip that only BTS is needed to play. I'll try removing my local content of the other two (don't need scenarios) and try BTS after that.

I have some double listing but the install seems to be going as planned

Mine lists twice also unless I filter to "Mac Games". Then they list once each.

I haven't downloaded Civ IV, just BTS and it works fine.

Im thinking about buying Civ IV complete edition on steam. It would be my first time playing the game. I havnt even played 1,2 or 3 :p haha. but im hearing very good things so i would love to try 4. Should i start with the original then go in order when i play? Or should i just start with beyond the sword? And after reading above I saw someone posted you only need to play beyond the sword. Didnt colonization come after that though? Thankyou :) :apple:

Just play BTS, it incorporates the addons from the other expansion. You only need to play the original and Warlords if you want to play the scenarios that each game has.

Colonization is a separate game altogether.

I already purchased the original Mac version of Civ 4 from Aspyr, the standard PC version and the one with both add-ons included. Naturally, neither came with a serial so it can't be activated on Steam... guess I will have to buy it a fourth time. :D It's still cheaper than buying all add-ons for Mac separately.

btw. Did they ever fix performance issues during end-game? I remember the last time I played Civ 4 on my MBP years ago... not nice.
