It's available for Mac+PC. It's from 2005, so it probably runs in whatever computer you have. It's US$10 for the game with all the expansions, which is a freaking steal, because this game is absolutely addictive. Seriously.

Buy this game. It's the price of a meal, and it's the best gaming deal ever. If they gave away Modern Warfare 2 it wouldn't be as much of a good deal as Civ IV complete for US$10.

It's on my to-play list. I tried a bit but it seemed awfully confusing to start off with. I'm sure I'll pick it up.

What I certainly love is the menu music; Baba Yetu. I think it's superb.

Ok, I've heeded your demand even though i never seem to get around to playing games like Civ.. :D

DAMN Steam for having so many awesome offers I can't resist..

There has to be a finite number of games I'd want to get, so hopefully they'll run out soon, lol.

Just a heads up, this game can indeed be overwhelming at first. It's a different genre and you have to learn the mechanics in order to play. I don't remember how good is the tutorial, but if you get frustrated because you are confused, don't give up. Post here and I'll do my best to help.

Valve is the once and future king for deals like this. Pass on our :D to Gabe wont you rbarris?

Yeah I'll be honest, I tried this game once, or possibly even twice before, because I'd heard how great it was and in theory I like these kinds of games (even though I have like no time these days but anyway). I just couldn't get part that frustration hurdle. Too much was counter-intuitive. I think I must have been spoilt by all these mindless games we get these days.

Anyway you have inspired me to give it a second go.

Oh hey btw - is there any reason at all not to go for the OSX version? It's not one of those things where the Win version can install mods or whatnots the OSX one can't or anything like that?

Thanks for the inspiration.

I've always been a fan of real-time strategy, so Civ has been really hard for me to get into. I bought the original Civ 4 when it was on sale on Direct2Drive awhile ago and couldn't get into it then. I figured for a full game and three expansions $10 wouldn't be too bad (and plus I'd get the Mac version out of this, too!), so I'm giving it another go. I'm still having difficulty focusing my attention on it. I suppose I am too much of a twitch gamer now.

I will keep giving it a shot, mostly because everyone always raves on how good the Civilization series is, and how much of an instant classic that Civilization 4 is especially.

I know that every gaming purchase I make right now is a rebound after the first beta phase of the StarCraft 2 beta got ripped out of my hands. :( Bring the beta back, Blizzard, bring it baaack!

sid mier is the most overated man in the universe. Pirates- awful game which could have been epic. Spore- Waste of 10 years anticipation. Civ series is not action packed its bunch of complicated levels of gameplay all for some point and click turn based....ah so overated. Want a real strategy game? Get tropico or caesar.

Hahaha. What a bunch of crap.:D But I guess that everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

I've owned both tropico and ceasar 2 for Mac and while those games were ok, I can't say that I've spent a whole lot of my time playing them as they're only average and neither of them can hold a candle to Civilization II, which I also had. Civilization is far more in depth, more advanced, and more fun! Forget about playing a little banana republic dictator or some ancient Roman, Civilization gives it to you all, from ancient times and up until modern times and beyond!

I just need to figure out how to get steam to let me choose where i download the games, and I will getting the Civ IV series for sure! For 10 bucks, it's a no-brainer.

You get both the Mac and PC versions with this.

Sid Meier didn't make Spore. :p That was Will Wright.

Also, turn-based strategy has been around for much longer than real-time strategy. I play both, and I like both. Just because you don't think something is strategy doesn't mean it isn't.

Just a heads up, the sale will be gone tomorrow. And Steam has changed the install folder to Application Support instead of Documents, which is much better. Don't know if you knew that.

So. Much. Fail.

Already have it, but I have to agree these steam deals are fantastic, its amazing they can coordinate massive sales like this and so often. Ive gotten like 35ish games or 65 bucks over the past 2-3 days.

Forget civ, any pc gamer not using steam is missing out bigtime.

Too bad I cant play these games yet since I broke my mouse (overused it so now its double clicking :( )

But my knew one(s) should be here soon! Happy savings!

Oh, thanks for me telling me that, because I didn't know that the sale would be this short!

I was thinking about buying the game anyhow, even at the full price, so I'll definitely grab it tonight.

The application folder or the documents folder doesn't help me much, as my main issue was that my main internal drive is an SSD, which doesn't have unlimited space on it. I have terrabytes of free space on other drives.

I'll just download it to my SSD for now and figure out how to solve the problem later, so I can still get the game while it's only $10.

:)

Update!

I just went to Steam and I actually think that the sale is until July 4, but I went ahead and bought the complete Civ IV collection now.

Except for Portal, which I got for free and haven't installed yet, the rest of the list is not bad at all for $10.00! Woohooo! :D It seems like I got Mac and PC versions for every Civ IV game, except for Colonization. I don't care about the PC versions anyway, so it's all good.

I haven't download any of the games yet, so I'll figure out where and how to save them at a later date.

I'm thinking Colonization didn't get a Mac port? Otherwise it'd be on that list.

It did! I have the Mac version, but not the PC version on my list.:D

All PC versions on my list say "Not available", while the Mac versions say "Not installed".

I just got it. $10 is too good a deal to pass up for the whole set. It took me a little while to get used to not being able to spam cities all over the world and the more aggressive barbarians in this version of Civ, but I really like it.

I've just signed up to Steam and bought this for £6.24 in the UK. However, I cannot get the Steam client to open. It keeps trying to download an update, gets 80% of the way through and then just stops. Anyone else had this experience?

Wow! That is really an unbelievable deal! I've always wanted to get into the Civilization series but never gave it a fair shot beyond the demos. I actually replayed the Civilization 4 Mac demo over the weekend and almost purchased the whole thing yesterday from Steam. I'm glad I waited a day because now this is really a no-brainer.

I agree that the game does have somewhat of a learning curve but doing the tutorial helps, which I did in the demo. There's still some things I don't fully understand about the game but I know enough to play and I'm sure I'll learn more with the full game. The good news here is if for some reason I end up not playing it much I'm only out 10 bucks. :)

This surge in Mac gaming, most notably lead by Steam and the unbelievable sales it has, has really given me way too much to play. So I didn't really need Civilization 4 right now but at that price I'd be crazy to pass it up. :)

Okay well so much for getting it for 10 bucks because it's now back to its original price of $30, which is still a great deal but not an insane deal.

I thought this deal was supposed to be good all day, or at least for 24 hours, but I guess I was wrong and it's going to cost me if I still plan to buy it. I don't know when the discount actually started but I do know it wasn't discounted at around 8 PM last night when I looked. So it looks like these amazing mini sales don't last for 24 hours. I am new to Steam so lesson learned. When you see something that you might be interested in discounted that steeply on Steam you should buy it right then and there. I had went to check out the demo again for one last time and when I came back afterwards the sale was over. :(

Perhaps this is a good thing because I really have a bunch of other games to play right now but still it would have been nice. Being that there's not a lot of third-party games for the Mac available on Steam, and we still have about a week left in this summer sale thing, does anybody think it's possible they may discount Civilization 4 Complete again before it's over? I will wait and see just in case because I'm in no hurry and I know I can always grab it for $30 at any time. Oh well.

This won't be the last time they offer Civ 4 at this price. I picked it up about 3 months ago for the same price.

Are you sure about that?

I downloaded STEAM as soon as it came out for Mac and I've never seen the entire CIV IV complete series (with all four CIV IV games and expansions included) for 10 dollars.

I sure am glad that I decided to venture into this forum and click on this thread last night. Thanks to the OP! :)
