We sure have, but at least we're discussing a topic that needs to be discussed. I know what you're saying about how America doesn't always compare well...in fact, in many cases, it has some 3rd world attributes (education, Gini ratio, etc) but I just don't like government intervention, esspecially in the US. Government here has, as you said earlier, proven to be wasteful and pathetic. That's why I'd prefer to solve America's woes without government intervention; I just feel that it would only make it worse.

And by the way, I am very critical of the US in many ways...I just haven't shown it here:) There are a lot of things that bug me about American society, but ultimately I prefer to change those things in other ways. And I chose France because it highlighted my example (I'm practicing for lawschool, how am I doing?:) )

At least you care about the world around you, and for that, I say you deserve a great deal of credit and respect. I may disagree with you in certain areas, but I highly value your opinion.

I did get a sense that you were practicing for something, though what I had no idea. Yes, the key is to engage with the world and with people, not necessarily to agree. Thanks for a good conversation.

Let's get back to the much more serious Apple display law suit...

Good luck with law school!

Thanks, and yes, we should get back to that:p

I'm not sure that bad displays are a good enough reason for a lawsuit...it just seems abusive to the process. However, like I said in an earlier post, we really don't know enough to pass judgement yet.

I just don't think that Apple was guilty of false advertising. Like I said, we probably won't hear anymore about this lawsuit ever again...it's going to be burried by Apple, with a rapid settlement that has a "keep your lips sealed" clause.

so happy

i am so happy the lawsuit is happening. I prchased a Macbook pro back in December and returned it. I looked at others and all had the same problem...uneven backlighting, grainyness...allthat negative stuff. All the screen were worse quality than the 17" PC laptops i compared it to...that's what is unacceptable. I know some people made this thread into the whole misleading of advertisment...and from a legal standpoint, those starting the lawsuit may be going that route...but the whole point is probably to make Apple admit there is a problem with the quality of their screens and fix it..

So as i was saying, i returned my Macbook Pro and decided to wait 6-12 months in case developments or updates occur that will fix the display issue with their MBP line...and it seems like it may finally be here.

Once again...the poor quality is Apple's problem, and not other laptop makers. Comparably, Apple has a very bad MBP screen. So fanboys stop defending. The point is to make Apple stronger, not let it become weak.

know that certain EU countries (like France) have unemployment rates that are consistantly higher than they are in the US.

could it be because many poor in the u.s are not even isted when they calculate unemployment?

Edit : oh, and PDE and CalBoy, if i was in the u.s i would sue you guys for going off topic :D

You're confusing anecdotal evidence. Even if you bought a macbook from every country on the planet, your selection would be limited.

Assuming there have been 10 million MacBooks produced. Assume further that only 10 000 have bad displays; that is 0.1%. Now if you sample ten uncorrelated MacBooks, how high is your chance that all of them have bad displays. I am too lazy to look up the formula but the chances of that happening a pretty slim.

One of the plaintiffs was clearly so upset about the quality of his first MacBook display that he still bought a MacBook Pro 5 months later. Not maybe the most logical move if you think Apple's laptop displays are unacceptably bad, eh?

I also love the use of a load of anonymous, unattributable forum posts as evidence in the submission, as well as the allegation that the plaintiffs have "paid more for their computers than the computers were worth", like they were marched into the Apple Store at gunpoint and forced to buy. I'd imagine Apple's lawyers are laughing their asses off even as we speak.
Hey i have had 4 bad macs in the last year, not this issue but others, and i am buying another after 20 years with Apple.... its in my blood!

i hate class action lawsuits... lawyers get rich, consumers get a check for $12.45 :D

Me too. I had so many defective macs last year that I barely keep track, but having to use windows is a worse fate than dealing with Apple. I guess I'm hooked too....
